Description complète du poste

Reporting to the Safety Officer Supervisor, the Safety Officer for the Community Safety Team supports community well-being by responding to public safety concerns, assisting individuals in crisis and fostering positive community relationships. The role focuses on proactively addressing social issues through community engagement, conflict de-escalation, outreach and collaboration with emergency services, community organizations and social service partners. Safety officers help connect vulnerable individuals with appropriate supports and services while promoting safe, respectful and inclusive environments for City of Winnipeg residents and visitors.

As the Safety Officer Community Safety Team, you will:

Assist with public safety and provide community service
Provide enforcement and any related administration
Partner and build relationships

Your education and qualifications include:

Post-Secondary related education in social work, crisis intervention, sociology or an equivalent combination of relevant training and education.
2 - 3 years previous law enforcement, social work or related public or social community service experience relative to the position.
Experience working professionally and collaboratively in a team environment
Knowledge of the investigation process and documentation for use of evidence, an asset.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to establish and maintain respectful working relationships with staff, citizens and other agencies in a diverse community e.g. handle and resolve confrontational situations, including use of force as necessary.
Ability to work under stressful conditions including emergency situations that may result in serious incident and/or fatality.
Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. (I.e. gathering relevant information, checking facts and data, interpreting information, identifying problems and generating workable solutions).
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office and its applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
IMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service https://canalliance.org/en/ at application.

Conditions of employment:

The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
A Police Information Check, with Vulnerable Sector Search, satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
A satisfactory Child/Adult Abuse Registry Check from the Province of Manitoba.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license.
Must be able to work a variety of shifts with varying hours.
Successful completion of Provincial Community Safety Officer training, including meeting the Provincial requirements to be sworn as a peace officer/community safety officer.
Willingness and ability to wear and care for a uniform and safety equipment as determined necessary by the Division.
