Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Quality Assurance, the QA Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of CAA North & East Ontario's applications and technology solutions. The role develops and executes comprehensive testing strategies throughout the software development lifecycle, validating that new features, enhancements, integrations, and system changes meet defined business and technical requirements.
Working closely with developers, business analysts, project managers, and stakeholders, the QA Specialist identifies, documents, and tracks defects, supports user acceptance testing, and helps ensure timely issue resolution. The incumbent contributes to project planning by coordinating testing activities, monitoring quality risks, and providing regular updates on testing progress. The QA Specialist also promotes continuous improvement by enhancing testing processes, maintaining test assets, and staying current with industry best practices and emerging testing technologies.
Responsibilities
Quality Assurance
- Develop, maintain, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, test scripts, and testing documentation.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, system, and user acceptance testing (UAT) to validate application functionality and business requirements.
- Execute testing for new features, enhancements, bug fixes, and production releases to ensure application quality and stability.
- Maintain and update the organization's test suite to reflect application enhancements and changing business requirements.
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects, ensuring issues are communicated and resolved in a timely manner.
- Record test results, analyze failures, and provide detailed defect documentation for development teams.
- Validate defect resolutions through retesting and regression testing.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project stakeholders to clarify requirements, troubleshoot issues, and improve product quality.
- Participate in requirements and design reviews to identify potential quality risks early in the development lifecycle.
Project Support & Coordination
- Support project planning by estimating testing effort and coordinating testing activities with project timelines and deliverables.
- Monitor testing progress, identify quality risks, and recommend mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
- Provide regular updates on testing status, defects, risks, and quality metrics to project teams and stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release activities as required.
- Support user acceptance testing by coordinating testing activities, documenting results, and assisting business users throughout the validation process.
Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate and improve testing processes, methodologies, and documentation to increase testing efficiency, consistency, and product quality.
- Recommend opportunities for test automation and process improvements where appropriate.
- Maintain knowledge of software testing methodologies, industry trends, tools, and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of QA standards, templates, and best practices.
- Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to team members on testing approaches, tools, and quality assurance practices.

Education & Experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in software quality assurance or software testing.
- Experience testing business applications throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Experience developing and executing structured test plans, test cases, and defect management processes.
- Experience participating in Agile and/or Scrum software development environments is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), software testing methodologies, and quality assurance principles.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to investigate application behaviour, validate data integrity, and identify root causes of defects.
- Ability to interpret business and technical requirements and translate them into effective testing scenarios.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information appropriately for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships across cross-functional teams.

Technical Skills
- Proficiency with software testing tools and defect management platforms (e.g., Azure DevOps, JIRA, Confluence, Selenium, or equivalent).
- Experience documenting test cases, test execution results, and defect reports.
- Working knowledge of T-SQL for data validation and troubleshooting is considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with test automation concepts and automated testing tools is considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
