About the role:
The Coder - Health Records Technician will work with physicians and allied health care providers toward a common understanding of CIHI grouper methodology and its relationship to documentation, funding and decision-making. Maintains effective interpersonal skills to work with physicians, co-workers and staff in a positive co-operative manner.
What you'll be doing:
- Using ICD-10 CA and CCI classification to assign codes to inpatient, day surgery, oncology and or emergency patients
- Entering data (abstracting) into Med2020 WinRecs system
- Perform the above functions on a concurrent basis with accuracy
- Must have excellent knowledge of medical terminology
- Must have a good understanding of anatomy and physiology along with disease processes
- Self-driven to keep up the above noted knowledge
- Perform all quality, correction functions associated with above functions
- Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
- Work with physicians to affect change in documentation on the chart such that CMGs and expected length of stay are correctly assigned.
What you bring:
- Health Information Management diploma
- Canadian Health Information Management Association certification (CHIMA)
- Two years current coding of inpatient, day surgery, oncology and or emergency records using ICD-10 CA and CCI
- Complexity Analysis
- Competent in software - MS Office, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint is an asset
- Ability to maneuver through Meditech, Med2020 WinRecs, Folio
- Ability to focus and concentrate in a busy, often loud environment
