Hamstra Carpet One Floor & Home has been in Strathroy for 69 years and throughout the decades has transformed from a Dutch immigrant start up company selling clothing and drapery, to Strathroy's thriving fourth generation, family owned, Carpet One, Benjamin Moore, and go-to window covering solutions retailer.
Purpose of the Role:
This person is responsible for ensuring that job details, claims, and customer expectations are managed smoothly and efficiently. For 69 years, managing our installation teams and the quality of our workmanship has been central to our reputation, and we intend to strengthen that legacy even further in the years ahead. Strong leadership and customer communication skills are the key to success for making our projects run smoothly, and having someone in charge of consistent results who is detail-oriented and organized will help our business stand out from the rest.
Responsible For:
Project Management
- Plan, schedule, and oversee installation projects from start to finish.
- Ensure all installations meet company quality standards, timelines, and contractual obligations.
- Monitor progress and resolve issues to avoid delays or cost overruns.
- Handle installation issues as they arise (EG: installer asks for more clarification)
Installation Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, and manage installation staff and subcontractors. Any warehouse and delivery personnel hired will report to you.
- Conduct quarterly performance reviews and provide coaching for continuous development.
- Ensure team adherence to company policies, safety guidelines, and professional standards.
- Encourage the installers and build a culture of trust, efficiency, and detail orientation
- Lead bi-weekly team meetings
Customer Experience & Quality Control
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers during the installation phase.
- Address customer concerns quickly and professionally to ensure satisfaction.
- Provide clear communication regarding timelines, expectations, and progress updates.
- Schedule service orders within the standard timeframe
- Follow up with customers post-installation
Operational Efficiency
- Develop and implement best practices to improve installation efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor resource allocation, labour hours, and materials usage to control costs.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, reports, compliance records, and vehicle maintenance.
Health & Safety
- Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations on all job sites.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and training sessions.
- Investigate and resolve any incidents or near misses.
Warehouse Management
- Organize and maintain the warehouse by clearly labeling, sweeping, and arranging skids
- Restock installation supplies as needed
- Receive and put away deliveries
Auxilary Responsibilities
- Answer phones and assist customers as needed (when sales staff are all busy)
- Assist installers on job sites however needed. Eg. help to move appliances, furniture etc.
- Deliver materials as needed
Deliverables:
- Maintain target installation gross margin %, including control of labour efficiency, material usage, and rework costs.
- Achieve and sustain an installation callback rate at or below 5% of completed jobs, with timely resolution of all issues.
- Drive customer satisfaction by consistently securing post‑installation Google reviews (high review capture rate and rating), contributing toward the company’s review volume and rating goals.
Qualifications:
- Friendly, approachable and professional in all customer and crew interactions.
- Strong communicator; ensures installers and customers clearly understand scope, timelines, and job details.
- Proven ability to build trust and maintain strong relationships with customers, installers, and internal teams.
- Takes full ownership of the customer’s needs; translates specifications into clear, actionable work orders for installers.
- Thorough knowledge of common flooring products and installation methods, with a commitment to continuous learning.
- Confident decision‑maker who remains calm and effective under pressure.
- Humble and honest. Does not mislead customers and readily admits and corrects mistakes.
- Highly organized and detail‑oriented, able to manage many jobs and moving parts simultaneously. Maintain a neat and organized warehouse.
- Logical, process‑oriented thinker who can prioritize and solve problems quickly in the field and in the office.
- Learns new software systems quickly (Google Workspace, POS/ERP, scheduling tools, and AI‑assisted workflows).
- Comfortable owning installation P&L drivers, including labour efficiency, material usage, rework, and job‑level margin.
Compensation:
- $70,000 yearly salary. Instalments paid weekly
- Team bonus coming soon.
