Bring your technical expertise in road maintenance and strong planning and contract management skills to the Ministry of Transportation. Here your work will make a significant contribution to ensure the safety and quality of Ontario's transportation infrastructure.
In this role, you will:
- Administer area maintenance contracts related to maintenance and repair of transportation related facilities, ensuring work is completed to contract documents and specifications
- Monitor the contractors' delivery of maintenance and repair operations
- Ensure contractors maintain work records
- Monitor financial forecasts and expenditures
- Provide analytical support to ensure effective delivery and value for money
NOTE: This position requires frequent travel and overnight stays.
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
- You have knowledge of the practices, procedures and standards related to the inspection and maintenance of roads, both during the summer and winter seasons
- You have demonstrated knowledge of the repair of roads, including drainage systems
- You have working knowledge of road construction practices, techniques, equipment and material
- You have an understanding of the deterioration process of roads, sufficient to assess and determine the appropriateness of repair technique and timing
- You have knowledge of contract management and administration procedures, reporting requirements and documentation
- You have the ability to prepare cost estimates for proposed work
- You can read and interpret contract plans, documents and specifications to assist in negotiations and solve problems
- You have proven ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes
- You have the ability to supervise staff and manage stakeholders in high pressure situations
- You demonstrate negotiation, oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with contractors and the public
- You have working knowledge of computers and various software applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and e-mail
- You have the ability to interpret and apply various acts and regulations such as the Highway Traffic Act and the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act
