Social Connections ABA Therapy is a compassionate and collaborative multidisciplinary practice dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families through neurodiversity-affirming, client-centered, and evidence-informed care. We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Communication Disorder Assistant (CDA) to join our growing team and provide speech-language support services under the supervision of a CASLPO-registered Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
Position Summary
The Communication Disorder Assistant will support children and youth with communication needs through evidence-informed, client-centered, and trauma-informed practices. Services may be provided in-home, within the community, virtually, or at our centre locations depending on client needs.
The successful candidate will work closely with the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist and interdisciplinary team to support functional communication, participation, and quality of life for clients and families.
Responsibilities
- Implement assessment and intervention activities as delegated by the supervising SLP, in accordance with CASLPO CDA guidelines
- Support children and youth with a variety of communication needs including:
- Speech sound disorders
- Expressive and receptive language delays
- Social communication differences
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Collect and record data on client progress for review by the supervising SLP
- Deliver services in a culturally responsive, neurodiversity-affirming, and family-centered manner
- Collaborate with caregivers to support skill generalization through coaching and practical strategies
- Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with ABA therapists, RBAs/BCBAs, mental health professionals, and other team members
- Maintain accurate and timely session notes and documentation in accordance with PHIPA and organizational policies
- Attend supervision meetings and feedback sessions with the supervising SLP
- Seek guidance from the supervising SLP regarding complex or unfamiliar clinical situations
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities
- Represent themselves appropriately as a Communication Disorder Assistant and not as a Speech-Language Pathologist
- Perform other duties within the scope of a CDA role under SLP supervision
Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) program or equivalent education/training
- Experience supporting children and youth with communication differences preferred
- Knowledge of neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed practices considered an asset
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while maintaining ongoing communication with the supervising SLP
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to client locations as needed
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)
- CPR/First Aid certification considered an asset
