Position Summary
The Maintenance & Groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeep and appearance of resort grounds, general maintenance and repairs, and supporting marina operations, including serving customers at the fuel dock. This is a hands-on position that requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Occasional weekend and holiday work is required, particularly during peak boating and tourism seasons.
Key Responsibilities
Groundskeeping, Property Maintenance & Repairs
- Maintain resort and marina grounds, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, weeding garden beds, and caring for landscaped areas.
- Keep grounds, walkways, parking areas, docks, buildings, and common areas clean, safe, and presentable.
- Perform routine inspections of buildings, docks, facilities, and equipment to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
- Complete minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and general upkeep.
- Assist with preventative maintenance, seasonal cleanups, landscaping projects, and property improvements.
- Remove litter, debris, and waste from resort and marina facilities.
- Identify and report maintenance issues requiring specialized repairs or contractors.
- Operate and maintain maintenance equipment and tools safely.
Marina & Fuel Dock Operations
- Provide courteous and professional service to marina guests.
- Assist boaters with fueling operations in accordance with marina safety procedures.
- Monitor fuel dock cleanliness and organization.
- Assist with dock maintenance and marina upkeep.
- Respond appropriately to fuel spills and emergency situations following established procedures.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, landscaping, construction, marina operations, or a similar field is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance, repairs, and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license is an asset.
- Boating or marina experience is an asset but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including sun, rain, wind, and heat.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Ability to safely operate lawn care equipment, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to work on docks and around water safely.
- Comfortable working on uneven terrain and using ladders when required.
Safety & Training Requirements
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for guests, coworkers, and marina users.
- Must follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Training will be provided on:
- Fuel dock operations and fuel handling procedures
- Spill prevention and response
- Workplace hazard identification
- Equipment and tool safety
- Resort and marina emergency procedures
- Occupational First Aid certification, WHMIS certification, boating safety, or marine-related safety training are considered assets.
- Successful candidate must be willing to participate in ongoing safety training and meetings.
Schedule
