Job Type: 3-Month Contract, Full-Time
Potential: Permanent hire based on performance and business needs
Pay Rate: $25/hour
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8-hour workday
Hours: Typically regular daytime hours; occasional evening/night availability may be required for incident investigations and scheduled safety tours
We are seeking a proactive and motivated Health & Safety Coordinator to support a manufacturing environment and help maintain a strong workplace safety culture.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety programs. This position will work closely with managers, supervisors, team leads, employees, Human Resources, the Health & Safety Committee, first aid attendants, and external agencies to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable legislation.
We are ideally seeking candidates with experience in a Canadian manufacturing environment. However, we are also open to candidates with limited experience who demonstrate a strong interest in health and safety, a willingness to learn, initiative, and the ability to grow within the role.
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of company-wide health and safety programs.
Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and practices consistent with applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
Support compliance with internal safety policies and external regulatory requirements.
Ensure contractors are covered under appropriate safety programs and requirements.
Participate in external audits and assist with the development and implementation of corrective action plans.
Support the tracking and monitoring of health and safety objectives, metrics, and annual plans.
Maintain accurate and detailed safety records and reports.
Coordinate the ordering of PPE, safety supplies, and safety-related services.
Support managers and supervisors with the effective implementation of safety policies and procedures.
Provide guidance and coaching to managers, supervisors, team leads, employees, and the Health & Safety Committee on workplace safety matters.
Support the organization and maintenance of the Health & Safety Committee and first aid attendants program.
Monitor employee and subcontractor compliance with safety policies and procedures.
Conduct and coordinate workplace safety inspections, hazard assessments, and compliance reviews.
Assist with incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare written reports and recommendations following inspections and investigations.
Track and follow up to ensure identified safety actions are completed.
Participate in scheduled safety tours and inspections, including occasional evening or nighttime activities when required.
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate safety orientation for new employees.
Coordinate safety training with Human Resources and other internal departments.
Identify employee training needs and coordinate mandatory training requirements.
Support training related to First Aid, WHMIS, forklift operation, fall protection, confined space, PPE, and other applicable safety programs.
Maintain accurate employee training and certification records.
Support the development and facilitation of toolbox talks and safety meetings.
Develop safety procedures, job aids, and training materials as required.
Coordinate workplace injury and illness claims with WCB, Human Resources, healthcare professionals, and employees.
Ensure timely completion of accident and injury investigations.
Review accident and injury data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Ensure corrective actions resulting from investigations are implemented and followed up on.
Support the development and administration of return-to-work and disability management processes.
Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding workplace injuries, accommodations, and return-to-work matters.
Experience in a Health & Safety Coordinator, Safety Officer, or related role is preferred.
Experience working in a Canadian manufacturing environment is an asset.
Candidates with limited experience but a strong interest in occupational health and safety are encouraged to apply.
Strong knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and Workers' Compensation requirements.
Knowledge of workplace safety best practices and safety program development.
Level 2 or Level 3 First Aid certification is required.
Experience with safety inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective actions is an asset.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to build strong relationships and effectively communicate with employees at all levels of an organization.
Strong interpersonal skills with a professional, tactful, and collaborative approach.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is an asset.
