Position Overview
We are seeking Experienced Maintenance Technicians to support a fast-paced warehouse and distribution operation in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and technical support for warehouse equipment, automated systems, and facility infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work closely with Operations and site leadership to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational, while minimizing downtime and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a hands-on technical position suited for candidates with strong mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills and experience working with industrial, warehouse, logistics, or automated equipment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPreventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on warehouse equipment, machinery, and facility systems.
- Diagnose equipment failures and perform corrective repairs in a timely manner.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential equipment failures.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and operational maintenance requests.
- Complete maintenance activities according to established procedures and manufacturer specifications.
- Help maximize equipment uptime and minimize operational disruptions.
- Escalate complex technical issues when additional support is required.
Automated & Mechanized Equipment
- Maintain and troubleshoot automated and mechanized warehouse systems, including:
- Conveyor systems
- Sortation equipment
- Picking and processing stations
- Motors and drives
- Sensors and switches
- Material handling systems
- Other automated warehouse equipment
- Diagnose mechanical and basic electrical faults affecting automated equipment.
- Replace or repair defective components as required.
- Support equipment installations, commissioning, modifications, and upgrades.
- Assist external technicians and equipment manufacturers with major repairs when required.
Mechanical & Electrical Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems, including motors, bearings, belts, chains, rollers, gearboxes, and related components.
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting on industrial equipment.
- Inspect electrical components, sensors, controls, connections, and safety devices.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to identify equipment faults.
- Perform repairs safely and according to established procedures.
Facility Maintenance
- Support general warehouse and facility maintenance requirements.
- Inspect and maintain doors, dock equipment, lighting, safety barriers, and other facility infrastructure.
- Identify facility deficiencies and report issues requiring specialized contractor support.
- Assist with emergency and safety systems inspections as required.
- Support general repairs and maintenance activities throughout the facility.
Safety & Compliance
- Perform all maintenance activities in accordance with Nova Scotia occupational health and safety requirements, company policies, and site procedures.
- Follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance or repair activities.
- Ensure machinery guards and safety devices remain functional and properly installed.
- Immediately report unsafe equipment or conditions.
- Participate in incident investigations involving equipment or maintenance issues when required.
- Maintain a clean and safe maintenance work area.
- Properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintenance Documentation
- Accurately document preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Record equipment failures, repairs, parts replaced, and completed work.
- Update maintenance systems or CMMS as required.
- Maintain equipment maintenance history and inspection records.
- Communicate outstanding equipment issues and maintenance priorities during shift handovers.
Spare Parts & Inventory
- Monitor commonly used maintenance parts and supplies.
- Identify critical spare parts required to support equipment reliability.
- Notify leadership when replacement parts or supplies are required.
- Ensure tools, parts, and maintenance equipment are properly stored and maintained.
Operational Support
- Work closely with warehouse Operations to prioritize equipment repairs based on operational requirements.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption to production and warehouse operations.
- Provide technical support during equipment breakdowns and operational emergencies.
- Communicate equipment status and estimated repair requirements to site leadership.
- Support peak periods, new equipment installations, and operational changes.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring equipment failures and assist with determining root causes.
- Recommend improvements to equipment reliability, safety, and maintenance procedures.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to:

- Support improvements to preventive maintenance schedules and maintenance documentation.
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation
Post-secondary education, apprenticeship training, or certification in one of the following areas is preferred:
- Industrial Maintenance
- Industrial Mechanics
- Millwright
- Electrical
- Electromechanical Technology
- Mechanical Technology
- Automation
- Mechatronics
Equivalent hands-on industrial maintenance experience will also be considered.
Experience
- 2–5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, or distribution environment preferred.
- Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with automated or mechanized warehouse equipment is strongly preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting conveyor systems, motors, sensors, drives, and related equipment is an asset.
- Previous experience working in a high-volume distribution centre or automated warehouse environment is considered a strong asset.
Technical Skills
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and industrial equipment.

- Experience working with conveyors and automated material handling systems.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of mechanical troubleshooting, basic electrical knowledge, automated equipment experience, strong safety awareness, and the ability to respond effectively in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
