About the Role
We are seeking a technically strong Senior QA Engineer with deep expertise in 5G network traces, device logs, API testing, and telecom protocol validation. You will be embedded in a cross-functional team responsible for ensuring the quality, correctness, and reliability of subscriber provisioning flows, charging systems (CHF/SMF), and microservices within a next-generation wireless network. You will own end-to-end test strategies from design through execution, working closely with network engineers, developers, and architects.
- Mandatory Requirements - Location and Experience
Work Location & Attendance
● This role requires frequent on-site presence at the lab located at Scarborough Consilium Place (3–4 days per week). Candidates must be local or willing to commute regularly to this facility.
Mandatory Experience Distribution
Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience distributed across the following domains. Each area reflects the expected proportion of day-to-day work in this role:
● 30% — Wireless Rating & Charging Validation: Strong hand-on experience testing or troubleshooting wireless charging system involving Radius, N40 and related charging interfaces. This includes Wireshark analysis as part of test case execution, and validation of rating and charging call flows for both offline and online charging involving CHF, OCS and CDR generation.
● 20% — Wireless Subscriber Provisioning: Hands-on experience provisioning subscribers in HLR, HSS, and UDM using SOAP and REST APIs and tools similar to Postman. Ability to validate provisioning workflows end-to-end across subscriber management systems.
● 10% — Device Configuration & Attach Process Testing: Experience with device configuration and identifying testing issues in the attach process. Proficiency in evaluating QXDM captures and analyzing the underlying network issues they reveal.
● 10% — Core Network Trace Analysis: Ability to interpret and analyze packet captures involving core network nodes such as SMF and PCF, using tools including Netscout probes and Wireshark traces.
● 25% — Software, Platform & Middleware QA: Strong background in software-side and platform/middleware quality assurance. Knowledge of Selenium for UI/integration testing, CI/CD pipelines, microservices testing, and automation of test cases leveraging agentic AI frameworks.
● 5% — Advanced AI Knowledge: Working knowledge of advanced AI concepts relevant to test automation, including model behavior, agentic systems, and AI-assisted QA tooling.
Key Responsibilities
● Perform 5G charging validation including N28 (SMF ↔ CHF), N40 (SMF ↔ CHF), and N7 (SMF ↔ PCF) interface packet trace analysis and troubleshooting.
● Test and validate subscriber provisioning flows within 5G wireless network environments, ensuring accuracy of CDRs (Call Detail Records) and online/offline charging flows.
● Capture and analyse Wireshark traces and QXDM logs to diagnose network-layer defects and device network connectivity issues.
● Design, develop, and execute test cases for API testing (REST/SOAP) using Postman, Swagger, and ReadyAPI, covering functional, regression, and integration scenarios.
● Validate JSON and XML payloads across REST/SOAP services; perform schema validation and contract testing for microservices.
● Test Kafka message queues and validate message payloads, event ordering, and delivery guarantees in event-driven architectures.
● Conduct database validation using SQL to verify data integrity across provisioning and charging systems.
● Build and maintain API automation frameworks integrated into Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.
● Develop and manage mock services to simulate network components for isolated testing.
● Manage full defect lifecycle: discovery, documentation, triage, retesting, and closure using standard defect tracking tools.
● Participate in test planning, peer reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes.
● Work closely with Core Network, BSS, Charging and Vendor teams to investigate end-to-end integration issues.
Required Qualifications
● 5+ years of QA experience with a strong focus on API and backend system testing in a telecom or wireless environment.
● Hands-on proficiency with Postman, Swagger, and ReadyAPI for REST and SOAP service testing.
● Solid understanding of JSON and XML structures; experience with schema and payload validation.
● Demonstrated experience testing subscriber provisioning flows in a 5G or LTE wireless network.
● 5G charging domain knowledge: familiarity with 3GPP standards, CHF, SMF, PCF, and associated N-interfaces (N7, N28, N40) and Radius protocol.
● Practical experience with Wireshark for packet capture and trace analysis.
● QXDM log analysis experience for diagnosing wireless device and network issues.
● Experience testing Kafka or equivalent message queue systems.
● Proficiency in SQL for database querying and data validation.
● Experience integrating automated tests into Jenkins or similar CI/CD pipelines.
● Strong understanding of microservices architecture and testing strategies (contract, integration, component).
● Experience designing and using mock/stub services for API testing.
● Solid grasp of the defect lifecycle and experience with tools such as JIRA or similar.
Nice to Have
● Experience with end-to-end 5G charging flow testing including CDR generation and validation.
● Knowledge of 3GPP Diameter or HTTP/2 based charging interfaces.
● Scripting skills in Python or JavaScript for test automation.
● Exposure to cloud-native environments (Kubernetes, OpenShift) and containerized microservices testing.
● ISTQB or equivalent QA certification.
