Summary:
The Assistant Controller reports to the President with an indirect line to the Controller. The key responsibilities that include reconciling account balances and bank statements٫ maintaining the general ledger٫ preparing month-end close procedures and ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all Company accounting tasks.
The ideal candidate for this role must have experience working with Netsuite to help us get the most value out of our newly implemented ERP system.
Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including proper support and investigation of discrepancies
- Reconcile general ledger to subledgers
- Prepare financial statements٫ accurately and timely
- Maintain fixed asset schedules, tracking asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation
- Prepare month-end schedules and reports
- Assist in the preparation of financial budgets, cash flows, short-term and long-term forecasts
- Assist in the preparation of ad-hoc reporting and analysis
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable to ensure proper coding and accuracy
- Responsible for the accounting for loans and capital leases, including the maintenance of supporting amortization schedules where applicable
- Establish and maintain processes to ensure accuracy of monthly accruals
- Prepare monthly HST and PST filings
- Support payroll activities as required
- Prepare accounting entries related to payroll
- Prepare and submit monthly union and WSIB/Worksafe BC reports
- Manage day-to-day bank transactions and process payment of invoices, bills and expense reports (cheques, ACH, wire transfers, etc.) in accordance with approval policies and procedures
- Create timely and accurate accounting reports and present them to Company's executives and Senior Management as needed
- Develop recommendations to optimize company's accounting systems and procedures and detect inaccuracies.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
- Manage the external financial statements and income tax audit processes
- Perform foreign currency revaluations monthly on foreign currency denominated balances
- Support bank and investor reporting
- Support I/T filings
- Support inventory control activities as needed
- Build collaborative and functional relationships with other departments and with our outsourced support organization
- Participate in the implementation of system improvements using Netsuite
- Support the implementation of a new field service solution
- Any other tasks as may be required to meet company objectives
Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree / diploma, or recognized equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or Business
- CPA designation or actively pursuing accounting designation.
- 5-8 years of progressive Finance experience.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP / IFRS
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Advanced MS Excel
- Able to respond to tight deadlines
- Effective time management and organizational skills; can balance multiple concurrent projects and priorities
- Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Willingness to take on new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments
- Availability to attend meetings and training sessions in Maple, ON
