Position Summary
Scott Builders Inc. is seeking an experienced Commercial Carpenter to join our Service & Maintenance team. This role is focused on hands-on commercial construction, repair, renovation, and building improvement work across a variety of client sites.
The successful candidate will be a skilled carpenter with the ability to complete a broad range of commercial tasks, including repairs, tenant improvements, small projects, building upgrades, building envelope work, service and maintenance work, and coordination with specialty trades when required.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, enjoys solving construction-related challenges, and is comfortable working independently in professional client environments.

Job Summary
As a Commercial Carpenter, you will complete commercial carpentry, construction, repair, renovation, and building improvement work for Scott Builders’ clients. Your work may include framing, drywall, doors, hardware, finishes, flooring, ceilings, building envelope repairs, minor roofing repairs, building repairs, small additions, and other service-related construction tasks.
You will also assess work requirements, provide repair or replacement estimates, determine whether work can be completed internally or requires external trades, and help coordinate specialty subcontractors when work falls outside the scope of the position.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete commercial carpentry work related to construction, repair, renovation, remodeling, alteration, service, and maintenance of building structures and facilities.
- Perform work such as repairing doors, windows, frames, floors, walls, ceilings, partitions, drywall, interior and exterior finishes, hardware, floor coverings, building envelope components, small additions, minor roofing repairs, and other building repairs.
- Review work orders, client requirements, blueprints, schematics, and site conditions to estimate repair or replacement costs and determine labour, materials, and trade requirements.
- Complete minor plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling, and building system repairs within your experience level and legal trade limitations.
- Coordinate and schedule specialty trades or subcontractors for repairs and service work outside the scope of the position.
- Protect client property during work, maintain a clean and professional site, and restore work areas to their original condition upon completion.
- Track time, materials, and repair costs accurately for job records, administration, and invoicing.
- Maintain tools and equipment, report damaged equipment, and follow safe operating procedures for power tools and construction equipment.
- Follow all safety, environmental, hazardous materials, and construction-related policies, laws, and regulations.
- Provide professional, respectful, and solutions-focused service when communicating with clients, team members, and other stakeholders.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial construction and general carpentry experience.
- Strong commercial carpentry skills, including experience with drywall, framing, repairs, renovations, and exterior work.
- Ability to complete minor electrical, plumbing, and heating/cooling repairs within the scope of the role.
- Previous experience with HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work required.
- Technical training in one or more trades is preferred.
- Minimum Class 5 driver’s licence required.
- Knowledge of building and maintenance trade principles, methods, materials, fixtures, tools, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of building codes, occupational hazards, and safety practices related to construction work.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow work orders, client requirements, blueprints, schematics, instructions, and procedures.
- Ability to construct, maintain, repair, and alter various types of structures and building components.
- Strong communication, customer service, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues, respond to changing priorities, and solve problems professionally.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office programs and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime and travel to sites as required.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Ability to perform physical job duties, including bending, lifting, kneeling, climbing, twisting, and successfully completing a physical demands assessment.
- Ability to meet client pre-access requirements as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyperson Carpenter certification or equivalent commercial carpentry experience.
- Experience working in commercial service, renovations, tenant improvements, warranty work, or small projects.
- Experience with building envelope repairs, exterior repairs, or occupied commercial building work.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors or specialty trades.
Work Environment and Schedule
This is a field-based commercial construction role involving work at a variety of client sites. Work may take place in occupied commercial buildings, active construction environments, exterior areas, and other project-specific settings.
The role may involve standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, working with tools and equipment, and performing physical construction-related tasks. Work schedules may vary based on project and client needs, and overtime or travel to sites may be required.
