Job Overview
Kind Minds Family Wellness (KMFW) is seeking a Lead, Project Management to take full ownership of the delivery of community-based initiatives focused on preventing family violence and addressing child maltreatment within Black communities. This is a hands-on leadership role, not an administrative one: you will own the project plan, make day-to-day delivery decisions, and be trusted to resolve implementation problems as they arise rather than escalate every issue upward. This role may support one or more concurrent initiatives depending on organizational need and the community being served.
Working closely with Black-led community organizations, service providers, researchers, and community members, you will drive outreach and engagement strategy, lead the development of culturally grounded training and support tools, and personally deliver training and implementation support to service providers. You will be accountable for project activities being delivered on time, on budget, and in true alignment with funding requirements and Afrocentric, anti-racist, and trauma- and violence-informed frameworks; catching and solving delivery risks before they become funder-facing problems. You will also drive research and evaluation support, lead knowledge-sharing and partnership efforts, and turn community insight into practical tools, training resources, and policy recommendations. We need someone who is genuinely aligned with KMFW's mission, takes initiative without waiting to be asked, and is comfortable making judgment calls in the field on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Outreach
- Lead outreach strategy with Black-led community partners, adapting the approach based on what's actually working on the ground.
- Personally schedule and facilitate listening circles, focus groups, and interviews with Black caregivers, youth, and service users, exercising judgment to navigate sensitive conversations in the moment.
- Lead partnership meetings and discussion circles with Black community leaders, representing KMFW's priorities while genuinely incorporating community feedback.
- Attend community events and gatherings, proactively identifying relationship-building and partnership opportunities rather than attending passively.
- Drive outreach efforts to recruit Black fathers and male caregivers, problem-solving around engagement barriers as they come up.
- Own bi-monthly relationship management with Black-led organizations and service providers, catching relationship risks early.
- Develop and circulate project overviews and engagement calendars that keep partners genuinely informed, not just notified.
Materials Development and Management
- Lead development of plain-language engagement materials, iterating based on real community feedback.
- Coordinate translation of materials into languages such as Somali, Arabic, Swahili, and French, catching accessibility gaps proactively.
- Lead the development of culturally grounded training series and support tools in partnership with community stakeholders.
- Develop facilitation tools and reflective practice resources, applying judgment on what will actually work in the field.
Project Implementation and Coordination
- Own project delivery end-to-end — activities, timelines, and funding requirements — and make the day-to-day calls needed to keep delivery on track.
- Identify, pursue, and confirm participation from service providers working in child maltreatment and family violence prevention, driving recruitment rather than waiting for referrals.
- Personally deliver training and implementation support to participating service provider organizations.
- Schedule and facilitate training sessions with partner organizations, in person or virtually, adjusting format based on what each partner actually needs.
- Provide toolkits, coaching, and follow-up consultation, staying engaged until culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices are genuinely embedded, not just introduced.
- Distribute toolkits, facilitation guides, and other program resources.
- Lead reflection sessions and peer learning opportunities with service providers, drawing out honest feedback rather than surface-level check-ins.
- Proactively identify implementation barriers and lead the development of practical, workable solutions — not just flag problems for someone else to fix.
- Coordinate participant support including honoraria, transportation, and childcare, solving logistics issues as they arise.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the program, exercising judgment on what needs escalation versus what can be resolved directly.
Research and Evaluation Support
- Drive program research and evaluation activities in close partnership with the Lead, Research.
- Contribute to the ethical review process, including drafting and submitting ethics protocols.
- Ensure compliance with TCPS2 ethical principles for research involving human participants.
- Support qualitative and quantitative data collection processes in the field.
- Analyze qualitative data to surface themes and insights that inform real-time program adjustments.
- Collaborate with program partners to co-develop Afrocentric, trauma-informed, and anti-racist evaluation principles.
Knowledge Mobilization and Partnerships
- Lead knowledge mobilization activities, including community presentations, webinars, and infographics.
- Identify opportunities for and prepare presentation proposals for national conferences.
- Actively contribute to relevant Communities of Practice, including quarterly virtual meetings and annual in-person gatherings.
- Work with trained organizations to identify integration opportunities and lead development of sustainability checklists.
- Build and strengthen partnerships with service providers and Black-led organizations to support long-term implementation of program learnings.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading project management, preferably within community-based, public health, or social service sectors — not just coordinating or supporting one.
- Strong understanding of Afrocentric, anti-racist, and trauma- and violence-informed approaches, and genuine alignment with KMFW's mission and values.
- Experience engaging diverse community stakeholders, particularly Black communities.
- Knowledge of intervention research and evaluation methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment, and solve implementation problems in ambiguous or fast-changing community-based settings.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead multi-partner initiatives and manage competing priorities under real time and funding pressure.
- Experience working collaboratively with community organizations and service providers.
- Knowledge of the communities and service landscapes served by KMFW's programs is considered an asset.
- Master's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Community Development, Project Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
