Contexte du poste : Dans le cadre du développement d’un nouvel avion hybride à décollage vertical, l’entreprise recrute son Chief Engineer / System Lead, responsable de l’architecture avion, de l’intégration systèmes et de la gouvernance technique globale du programme.
Le programme est en phase critique :
- prototype en cours (premier vol imminent),
- certification visée à court terme,
- forte dépendance à des partenaires et fournisseurs externes,
- équipe interne réduite nécessitant un leadership technique très opérationnel.
Ce poste est structurant et stratégique : il s’agit du premier recrutement Chief Engineer du programme.
Mission principale
Le Chief Engineer / System Lead est la référence technique aircraft‑level du programme.
Il/elle est responsable de la cohérence globale de l’avion, de l’intégration de tous les systèmes, de la prise de décision technique transverse et de l’alignement entre exigences techniques, sécurité, certification, planning et objectifs business.
Note importante :
Une expertise approfondie en structures n’est pas requise. Les activités structures sont prises en charge par des équipes dédiées ou des partenaires.
Responsabilités clés
Architecture avion & intégration systèmes
- Définir et maintenir l’architecture avion globale
- Piloter la décomposition système, l’allocation fonctionnelle et les interfaces
- Assurer l’intégration bout‑en‑bout des systèmes avion, incluant notamment :
- propulsion / hybridation / EPDS
- avionique, communications, GCS
- commandes de vol, automatisation
- flight sciences et performances
- Garantir la cohérence globale entre les sous‑systèmes et les exigences avion
Gouvernance technique & prise de décision
- Être l’autorité technique finale pour : décisions d’architecture, arbitrages techniques et trade‑offs, acceptation des risques techniques
- Mettre en place et faire respecter les standards et processus d’ingénierie
- Définir et contrôler la baseline technique du programme
Revues de conception
- Présider et valider les principales revues techniques avion :
- SRR, PDR, CDR
- Définir les critères d’entrée/sortie techniques des phases programme
- Approuver les évolutions d’architecture, changements de conception et interfaces système
Sécurité & certification (au niveau système)
- Assurer l’alignement de la conception avec la stratégie de certification
- Superviser les activités de sécurité au niveau avion : FHA, PSSA, SSA (pilotage ou validation)
- Veiller à l’application des principes ARP4754A / ARP4761
- Interagir avec les autorités de certification via les équipes dédiées
Interface programme & direction
- Représenter l’ingénierie auprès : de la direction, des partenaires et fournisseurs, des parties prenantes clés
- Communiquer clairement les risques, enjeux et arbitrages techniques
- Contribuer activement à la planification programme et aux jalons clés
Leadership & organisation
- Coordonner les équipes internes et externes (ingénierie, fournisseurs, partenaires)
- Construire et structurer progressivement l’organisation technique
- Favoriser une culture de rigueur, pragmatisme, sécurité et accountability
Qualifications requises
Formation & expérience
- Diplôme universitaire en : génie aérospatial, mécanique, électrique ou équivalent
- 20 à 25 ans d’expérience en ingénierie (20 ans acceptés)
- ≥15 ans dans le développement d’aéronefs ou de systèmes aéronautiques complexes
Expérience clé recherchée
- Rôle occupé de type : Chief Engineer (orienté systèmes), Aircraft System Lead, Technical Director – Systems, Head of Aircraft Systems
- Forte expérience en : intégration systèmes avion, architecture avion, certification au niveau système
- Expérience sur : avion certifié, hélicoptère, VTOL ou eVTOL (fort atout)

Role Context : As part of the development of a new hybrid vertical take-off aircraft, the company is recruiting its Chief Engineer / System Lead, responsible for aircraft architecture, system integration, and overall technical governance of the program.
The program is in a critical phase:
- prototype in progress (first flight imminent),
- short-term certification target,
- strong reliance on external partners and suppliers,
- small internal team requiring highly hands-on technical leadership.
This role is structuring and strategic: it is the first Chief Engineer hire for the program.
Primary Mission
The Chief Engineer / System Lead is the aircraft-level technical authority for the program.He/She is responsible for the overall aircraft consistency, the integration of all systems, cross-functional technical decision-making, and alignment between technical requirements, safety, certification, schedule, and business objectives.
Important note: Deep expertise in structures is not required. Structural activities are handled by dedicated teams or partners.
Key Responsibilities
Aircraft Architecture & System Integration
- Define and maintain overall aircraft architecture
- Lead system breakdown, functional allocation, and interface definition
- Ensure end-to-end aircraft system integration, including: propulsion / hybrid systems / EPDS, avionics, communications, GCS, flight controls, automation, flight sciences and performance
- Ensure overall consistency between subsystems and aircraft-level requirements
Technical Governance & Decision-Making
- Act as the final technical authority for: architectural decisions, technical trade-offs and arbitrations, acceptance of technical risks
- Establish and enforce engineering standards and processes
- Define and control the program technical baseline
Design Reviews
- Chair and validate major aircraft technical reviews: SRR, PDR, CDR
- Define technical entry/exit criteria for program phases
- Approve architectural changes, design evolutions, and system interfaces
Safety & Certification (System Level)
- Ensure alignment between design and certification strategy
- Oversee aircraft-level safety activities: FHA, PSSA, SSA (lead or validation)
- Ensure application of ARP4754A / ARP4761 principles
- Interact with certification authorities through dedicated teams
Program & Executive Interface
- Represent engineering to: executive leadership, partners and suppliers, key stakeholders
- Clearly communicate risks, issues, and technical trade-offs
- Actively contribute to program planning and key milestones
Leadership & Organization
- Coordinate internal and external teams (engineering, suppliers, partners)
- Build and progressively structure the technical organization
- Foster a culture of rigor, pragmatism, safety, and accountability
Required QualificationsEducation & Experience
- University degree in: aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or equivalent
- 20 to 25 years of engineering experience (20 years accepted)
- ≥15 years in aircraft or complex aerospace systems development
Key Experience Required
- Experience in roles such as: Chief Engineer (systems-oriented), Aircraft System Lead, Technical Director – Systems, Head of Aircraft Systems
- Strong experience in: aircraft systems integration, aircraft architecture, system-level certification
- Experience with: certified aircraft, helicopters, VTOL or eVTOL (strong asset)
