Liberty For Youth is an impactful charitable organization dedicated to empowering at-risk youth in Hamilton and surrounding areas. Founded in 2003, we provide an intensive mentoring program fueled by the generous support of donors, funders, volunteers, and community partners.

The Finance Officer contributes to the mission of the organization by managing day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring strict compliance with internal policies and GAAP accounting principles. This role acts as a key liaison between internal leadership, the Board of Director, and external auditors.

Responsibilities

Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
Manage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring appropriate coding, backup documentation, and timely processing.
Identify and follow up on overdue accounts; investigate financial discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
Manage cash functions including receiving, recording, issuing receipts, and preparing bank deposits.
Process multi-stream donations (monthly, corporate, grants, campaigns, special events), update revenue tracking systems, and issue official income tax receipts.
Utilize QuickBooks to record deposits, raise invoices, and issue electronic payments.
Prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements for the Executive Director, Board of Directors.
Review monthly financial results, complete comprehensive variance reporting, and monitor revenue streams.
Develop monthly Cash Flow Analyses and Forecasts to guide strategic organizational decisions.
Prepare specialized statistical, financial, and accounting reports as requested by leadership.
Provide administrative and data support for the development of the organization's annual budget and individual grant proposal budgets.
Maintain accurate financial records for distinct organization projects to facilitate individual project management reports.
Ensure full compliance with internal financial policies, processes, and controls set by the Executive Director.
Prepare all supporting documentation and working papers for the annual external audit; liaise with the Board’s Audit Committee and external auditors as necessary.
Prepare for the annual charitable returns accurately and in a timely manner.
In cooperation with the external Bookkeeper, process full-cycle payroll (hourly and/or salaried) in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring correct statutory deductions, benefits administration, and compensation tracking.

Qualifications

Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in bookkeeping, financial administration, and full-cycle payroll processing. Experience in the non-profit sector is a strong asset.
Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is considered a strong asset.
Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks (including QuickBooks Payroll) and Microsoft Excel is required.
Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP, Ontario payroll legislation, and registered charity tax compliance.
Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to present financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Professional verbal and written communication skills with a high standard for handling highly confidential employee and donor information.
Must provide a clean and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check prior to the start of employment.
Due to the nature of our programs, this role requires handling highly sensitive client records. Absolute discretion and a strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality policies are mandatory.
