Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Saskatoon

Position Type: Part-time position Monday-Friday (minimum 2-3 days a week)

Reports to: Program Director

Program Overview – The Carter House

The Carter House provides a holistic, evidence-based, and recovery-oriented model of care for families experiencing trauma and substance use disorders. Our approach recognizes the complex intersection of substance abuse disorder, parenting, trauma, and systemic barriers, and is grounded in harm reduction,trauma-informed practice, and family-centered care while focusing on delivering outcomes and recovery-based care.

We offer a supportive and healing environment that prioritizes dignity, safety, and measurable outcomes for families on their recovery journey. Services are delivered through a multidisciplinary, person-centered, and family-focused model, ensuring coordinated care for both parents and children across systems.

Priority Populations

The Carter House will target families who:

· Must relinquish care of their children to access treatment.

· Are seeking treatment to regain custody of their children.

· Are at risk of having their children apprehended due to substance use.

Job Summary – Registered Nurse Manager

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical leadership role within The Carter House, working within existing wrap-around supports through a harm reduction and trauma-informed lens. The multifaceted role combines clinical care, emotional support, and client education.

This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing medical care for both parents and infants, ensuring continuity, safety, and quality of care to includes medication adherence, managing MARs, fielding medical concerns, educating and coaching unregulated care providers, immunization and oral health clinics, facilitating medical appointments, conducting assessments, consulting with health care professionals, and coordinating referrals to Primary Health Care.

The RN will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary staff, medical professionals, and community partners, and must demonstrate strong communication skills and cultural humility when working with clients from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

The RN must have the ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with clients from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds, and maintain an effective working relationship with members of The Carter House team, as well as community health care providers and agencies.

Nursing responsibilities

Clinical Care & Coordination

· Develop and maintain comprehensive medical care plans for all parents and children residing at The Carter House

· Conduct comprehensive initial and ongoing physical, psychological, and psychosocial assessments

· Provide medical support including screening, testing, treatment, monitoring, and follow-up

· Coordinate care related to medication adherence, Medication Administration Records (MARs), medication reconciliation, and auditing. Medication management includes Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), such as methadone or buprenorphine.

· Perform and follow up on toxicology screening, as required

· Monitor medical concerns and consult with Pediatrics, Infectious Disease, and Primary Health Care providers

· Support weekly physicians’ clinic

· Develop, implement, and adjust individualized care and treatment plans in collaboration with the clinical and interdisciplinary team (physicians, social workers, therapists, etc.).

· Participate in development of Policies and Work Standards

· Provide crisis intervention when clients experience acute distress, suicidal ideation, or other emergencies.

· Provide education to clients on health and nutrition principles to support overall wellness.

Care Integration & Continuity

Liaise with primary health care providers, hospitals, and specialists to support transitions and follow-up care
Coordinate with community-based organizations (CBOs) and health agencies to ensure continuity of care
Attend medical appointments with clients when required to support advocacy and continuity
Participate in case conferences and case planning as needed

Leadership & Team Support

Support waitlist triage from a medical perspective
Provide guidance and support to Continuing Care Assistants and Shift Supervisors related to medical care planning
Ensure clear and timely communication with care staff and physicians
Develop and maintain nursing standards, protocols, and workflows
Manage medical inventory and supplies

Qualification and Skills

· Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

· Registration and good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan

· Experience in community health, public health, pediatrics, mental health, or addictions nursing is a strong asset

· Knowledge of harm reduction principles in addictions, chemical dependency, the pathophysiology of substance abuse and withdrawal, and best practices for co-occurring mental health disorders.

· Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and confidential client records

· Strong knowledge of local health and social service providers

· In-depth understanding of:

o Communicable diseases

o Addiction and substance use

o Trauma, mental health, and poverty

· Strong grounding in trauma- and violence-informed care and culturally responsive practice

· Strong interpersonal skills, including compassion, empathy, and the ability to work with patients in a non-judgmental manner.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

· Excellent communication (verbal and written) and critical thinking skills.

Expected Salary Range: $93,600 - $101,400
