We are seeking a mindful, passionate, and collaborative Child & Youth Program Lead (CYPL) to join and lead our Schools Out after school programs. The (CYPL) (afterschool) works under the direction of the Community Programs Manager or designate. The role includes providing leadership within Alex House’s Schools Out Programs delivered at Katzie and Latimer Road Elementary Schools and occasionally work within our GBK Kids Program may be offered. The position works collaboratively with diverse community participants, team members and volunteers (children and community) to support the development and evaluation of community programs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in co-creating, planning, delivering and evaluating program activities and experiences using Schools Out Outcome domains including Identity Development, Social and Recreational Well-Being, Community and Land Stewardship, Health and Wellness, Skills and Competencies and family connection evenings.
- Build positive relationships with children & youth, encouraging participation and creating an inclusive, welcoming environment.
- Maintain a safe and respectful space for all participants by following center policies and safety procedures.
- Work with children, youth and families to identify needs and in collaboration with the Community Programs Manager provide culturally appropriate resources and where appropriate connection to services.
- Working with the Afterschool Team to set up and take down engaging activities and programming for the participants.
- Respond to any urgent needs and any potential behavioral, mental health, emotional concerns using trauma and culturally informed practice.
- In collaboration with the Community Programs Manager, take the lead maintaining and Schools Out Admin and Program record keeping and required program evaluation (attendance, reporting, stats, program reflection, stories and program delivery tracker).
- Helping with maintaining program supply inventory, ordering and supporting purchasing.
- Creating and maintaining supply inventory, purchasing and petty cash reconciliation.
- Attending the Schools Out Community of Practice Sessions (as required)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- At least 2+ Years experience working and/or volunteering with vulnerable children & youth, and their families in a recreational afterschool program or childcare setting in a leadership capacity
- The successful candidate will have or be pursuing a diploma/degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education, recreation programmer education, counselling or in a related field
- Knowledge and competency in co-creating meaningful inclusive, culturally safe and trauma informed programming that builds social connections, skills, an opportunity to belong and have fun with others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and teens.
- Proven ability to connect with children and meet them ‘where they are at’.
- Understanding and taking an inclusive approach in understanding the diverse needs of children and youth.
- Able to be flexible, resourceful ad possess good time management skills.
- Strong crisis intervention, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and comply with best practices and service standards.
- Demonstrated experience of strong group facilitation skills with children and youth.
- Administrative experience including record keeping, writing reports, data collection and strong organization skills required.
- Ability to work effectively, independently, and in collaboration with a team.
- Daytime and occasional evening availability required.
- Personal vehicle insurance for business use, minimum 2 million liability and valid driver’s
license and satisfactory current drivers abstract (mileage will be paid).
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency using Office 365 including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Canva.
- Clean Criminal Record Check
- Current First Aid, including CPR
- Current Food Safe Certification
- Fluency in a second language an asset

Job Details
This position is a term from September 2026 to June 2027 Monday – Thursday after school hours 18-20 hours a week with the occasional evening required. There are program breaks (no work) during the 2-week school break in December and during the 2-week school Spring Break.
**Additional Hours may be available if available within other after school programs including GBK Kids and the AH Youth Space.
Salary: Wage Band P4-(Range $24.83-$27.06 per Hour)
