Best Friends Children’s Centre is seeking a mature, responsible and reliable School Age Program Leader to join our licensed Before & After School Care program, working with children from Kindergarten to Grade 4.
This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with school-aged children, is confident managing a group, and understands the importance of safety, active supervision and positive engagement.
Regular Hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 2:00–5:30 PM
Additional Hours: Opportunity for full-time hours on Pro-D days and during Winter, Spring and Summer Breaks, based on program enrolment.
Flexibility with scheduling is important for this position.
What We’re Looking For
- ECE Assistant certification or qualifications to work as a Responsible Adult in licensed childcare
- Previous experience working with school-aged children is required
- Mature, dependable and consistently punctual
- Confident supervising children from Kindergarten through Grade 4
- Strong communication and positive behaviour-guidance skills
- Able to manage peer conflicts calmly and appropriately
- Energetic and willing to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities
- Comfortable walking groups of children to and from local schools
- Able to work independently while contributing positively to a team
- Current First Aid and ability to complete a Criminal Record Check
Key Responsibilities
- Safely walk and supervise children between the centre and local schools
- Maintain accurate attendance, head counts and active supervision at all times
- Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate activities
- Participate in and supervise daily outdoor play
- Build positive relationships with children and create an inclusive environment
- Support children with friendships, social skills and conflict resolution
- Provide clear expectations and consistent, positive behaviour guidance
- Assist with snacks, transitions and daily program routines
- Communicate professionally with families and fellow educators
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe program environment
- Follow centre policies, licensing requirements and health and safety procedures
- Participate in full-day programming during school closures and breaks when scheduled
The Right Fit
Our school-age program needs someone who is engaged and present with the children — not simply supervising from the sidelines. You should enjoy talking with children, organizing activities, getting outside and helping a broad range of ages navigate friendships and everyday challenges.
Reliability, maturity, good judgment and flexibility are particularly important in this role.
