Job Title: Flexographic Printing Press Operator
Job Description
This role operates and sets up flexographic printing press equipment to produce high-quality printed paperboard products. You will prepare and change over press components, handle materials and inks, maintain consistent print quality, and keep accurate production and quality records while working safely in a unionized, team-based environment.
Responsibilities

Set up and change over flexographic press equipment by installing and removing cylinders, anilox rollers, sleeves, and die-cutters according to job specifications.

Prepare and configure robotic take-off systems to ensure efficient and safe product handling during production runs.

Load and secure large paperboard rolls on the press and verify that materials meet job requirements before starting production.

Dispense ink formulas accurately and adjust ink levels and viscosities as needed to achieve desired print results.

Use color matching software to adjust and maintain accurate color reproduction throughout the production run.

Monitor print registration, color consistency, and overall print quality during production and make timely adjustments to maintain standards.

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve print and mechanical issues on the press to minimize downtime and scrap.

Clean ink trays, rollers, and related press components regularly to maintain optimal performance and prevent contamination.

Replace doctor blades, print heads, and other wear parts as required to sustain consistent print quality and equipment reliability.

Document production details, quality checks, and any adjustments made during runs in accordance with company procedures.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following housekeeping standards and safety guidelines.

Learn and apply new procedures, technologies, and best practices as they are introduced to the production environment.

Collaborate with pre-press staff and other machine operators to coordinate job setups, resolve issues, and ensure smooth workflow across shifts.
Essential Skills

Minimum 2 years of experience in flexographic printing, printing press operation, or die-cutting.

Hands-on experience operating flexographic printing presses or similar production printing equipment.

Knowledge of ink systems, including mixing, dispensing, and adjusting inks for color accuracy.

Knowledge of plate mounting techniques and proper handling of printing plates.

Knowledge of die-cutting processes and equipment setup.

Ability to use color matching software or tools to achieve and maintain accurate color reproduction.

Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements, including using measuring tools to verify dimensions and registration.

Ability to troubleshoot press and print quality issues and make appropriate mechanical and process adjustments.

Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain accurate production and quality records.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment alongside pre-press staff and other machine operators.

Willingness to work afternoon shifts as a primary focus and openness to other shifts as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment
This role is based in a unionized production facility within a Steelworkers environment, working closely with a team of approximately 10–12 pre-press and machine operators. The primary focus is on the afternoon shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with the expectation of openness to all shifts, including days (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and nights (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). Shift premiums apply for afternoon and night shifts. You work on flexographic printing presses and related equipment such as cylinders, anilox rollers, sleeves, die-cutters, and robotic take-off systems, as well as ink dispensing and color matching software tools. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, requiring adherence to safety protocols, housekeeping standards, and consistent use of appropriate work attire suitable for a manufacturing and print-production setting.
