Job Description
Join Sodexo as our next Cook Assistant at our exciting new Corrections client site launching in September 2026.
What You'll Do:
The Cook Assistant supports the preparation, cooking, and distribution of meals within a correctional facility. Working under the supervision of the Cook Supervisor, the incumbent assists with food preparation, maintains cleanliness and sanitation standards, receives and stores supplies, and helps ensure the safe and efficient operation of the kitchen. The Cook Assistant is responsible for adhering to correctional facility security protocols, food safety regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities:
Assist with the preparation and cooking of meals according to established menus, recipes, dietary requirements, and production schedules.
Prepare ingredients and food items by washing, cutting, measuring, portioning, and assembling products for meal service.
Support meal service and distribution activities, ensuring appropriate portion control and adherence to food quality standards.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen facilities, equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas in accordance with food safety regulations and institutional procedures.
Receive, inspect, store, and rotate food products and supplies following inventory control and food storage requirements.
Monitor and record food temperatures and sanitation activities to support compliance with food safety standards.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively, reporting equipment malfunctions or maintenance issues to the supervisor.
Maintain accountability of kitchen tools, equipment, supplies, and chemicals in accordance with correctional facility security procedures.
Oversee participants in institutional work programs and ensure adherence to institutional rules, safety requirements, and security protocols, ensuring compliance with established rules, safety practices, and operational procedures.
Follow all institutional policies, security protocols, and occupational health and safety requirements, and promptly report incidents, hazards, or security concerns.
Qualifications
What You Bring

Secondary school diploma or equivalent.

Food Handler/Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.

Experience working in a commercial, institutional, healthcare, hospitality, or large-scale food service environment is preferred.

Experience in a correctional, healthcare, or institutional setting is considered an asset.

A team-first attitude and strong communication skills

Physical ability to meet job demands (e.g., lifting, standing for long periods)
