Selkirk Elementary School is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. Selkirk Elementary School is a dual track English/French elementary school, Grades K - 7 with a student population of approximately 340. Key to Selkirk Elementary School’s philosophy is the incorporation of social emotional learning, developmentally responsive practice, and structured literacy and numeracy programming

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in elementary or intermediate education;

Recent teaching experience and/or pre-service practicum teaching experience in elementary or intermediate French Immersion or Francophone Programming;
-
Fully bilingual (reading, writing, speaking) French and English;
-
Recent experience integrating experiential learning activities into the core curriculum would be an asset;
-
Recent experience in the design and implementation of differentiated programs (specific to structured literacy and numeracy programs) would be an asset;
-
Experience with successful implementation of strategies and goals from education plans in collaboration with team members would be an asset;
-
Post-secondary training in teaching French Immersion and/or second language acquisition would be an asset;
-
Experience with or desire to acquire knowledge about NME/ developmentally responsive way of teaching; is an asset
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
-
Knowledge of effective instructional practices in literacy and numeracy including the ability to apply assessment for, as and of learning to inform instruction and support student growth
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents and caregivers, administration, other staff members, and consultants;
-
Willingness to deliver curriculum through outdoor experiential activities;
-
Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;
-
Recent experience (within the last 3 years) in strong classroom management by setting clear routines and fostering a positive, structured learning environment;
-
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population.
