Job Description:
Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Supervisor, Mechanical Services, the Steamfitter position is responsible for performing skilled steamfitter work associated with the installation, inspection, trouble-shooting, maintenance and repair of steam distribution systems on campus.
Responsibilities will align with the Plant Operations goal of contributing towards providing a safe and accessible, invitingly clean and comfortable, functionally-enriched and well-maintained campus environment through service excellence.
Key Accountabilities
Operations
Performs regular preventative maintenance on all steam system devices, including thorough inspection and repair of steam traps
Repairs steam, condensate, heating and ventilation systems
Installs and/or replaces piping
Identifies system problems and determines, organizes and executes the required action to keep the steam system functioning
Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings, makes accurate material takeoffs, and writes summary reports of condition assessment surveys when necessary.
Estimating costs of new installations and repairs
Able to organize and execute multi trade projects

In consideration of the University’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all faculty, support staff, students, and visitors, responsible for ensuring University facilities and departmental activities are compliant with all applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards related to facilities operations as well as occupational health and environmental safety.

Required Qualifications
Education
Current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Steamfitter (307A)
Additional related qualifications such as Plumber, Pipefitter, Millwright or Welder are an asset
Experience
Five (5) years of experience within the Steamfitter trade, service and troubleshooting background preferred.
Work experience within a major institutional sector(s), such as education, medical/hospital or related construction industry preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated proficiency in the installation, alteration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of steam systems up to 210PSI
Demonstrated and in-depth understanding of all related tools and shop equipment.
Ability to read and understand steam and mechanical system drawings
Must be customer and team oriented, able to work independently as well as in a group /team environment
Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license
