Ocean Pacific Marine is looking for an experienced Project Controls Specialist to join our growing team in Campbell River, BC.
Ocean Pacific Marine is a full-service boatyard providing vessel repair, refit, maintenance, and new construction services. With multiple projects underway at any given time, we are continuing to strengthen our project management and controls capabilities to support the growth of our business.
This is an opportunity for an experienced project controls professional to take ownership of scheduling and performance tracking while helping develop the systems, processes, and reporting practices that support effective project execution across our organization.
The Role
We are looking for a Project Controls Specialist to take ownership of scheduling and performance tracking across our boatyard programs.
On larger and more complex programs, you will develop and maintain the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) and apply Earned Value (EV) principles to provide clear visibility into schedule and cost performance. On smaller vessel repair, refit, and yard infrastructure projects, you will support build schedules, track milestones and costs, monitor progress, and identify risks and variances early.
You will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, Finance, trade supervisors, and senior leadership to ensure project information is accurate, timely, and useful for decision-making.
Marine experience is an asset but not a requirement. We are primarily looking for a strong project controls background and someone who can bring structure, visibility, and discipline to a busy, fast-changing, multi-project environment.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain an integrated master schedule across boatyard programs, and infrastructure projects
- Build and baseline project schedules and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
- Identify critical paths, schedule risks, dependencies, and cross-project resource conflicts
- Facilitate schedule reviews with Project Managers and operational leads
- Develop and maintain Performance Measurement Baselines (PMB) for larger projects
- Track Earned Value metrics, including Planned Value, Earned Value, Actual Cost, CPI, and SPI
- Work with Finance and Project Managers to ensure project cost information is accurate and current
- Support Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC) forecasting
- Monitor project performance, identify cost and schedule variances early, and support corrective action planning
- Develop schedules and track project cost data for capital and maintenance projects
- Coordinate with trades and facility teams to align infrastructure work with active vessel projects
- Produce weekly and monthly project controls reports, executive-level schedule summaries, and rolling look-ahead schedules
- Maintain schedule and cost baselines, change logs, and variance records
- Support project change management and approved baseline changes
- Help develop and continuously improve project controls processes, tools, templates, and reporting practices
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of progressive experience in project controls, scheduling, planning, or a closely related role
- Experience in a marine, shipbuilding, boatyard, construction, oil & gas, or other complex project-based environment
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining integrated master schedules in a multi-project environment
- Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent scheduling software
- Working knowledge of Earned Value Management principles and Performance Measurement Baseline development
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working across both cost and schedule data
- Ability to read and interpret scope documents, drawings, and work packages
- Clear communication skills with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences
- Organized, adaptable, and self-directed, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic and growing environment
Assets
- Familiarity with vessel repair or refit project lifecycles
- PMP, PMI-SP, or equivalent project management certification
- Experience establishing or helping build out a project controls function
Why Join Ocean Pacific Marine?
This is more than a schedule-maintenance role. You will have the opportunity to help shape how project controls are used across a growing organization while working directly with the people responsible for planning and executing the work.
You will have exposure to projects of varying size and complexity, from individual vessel repair and infrastructure projects through to larger, multi-year programs. For someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes, and turning project information into meaningful insight, this role offers significant opportunity to make an impact as our organization grows.
Working Conditions
This is a primarily office-based role with regular presence in our boatyard and vessel work areas. The environment is active and fast-paced, with multiple projects running concurrently. Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods.
