Job Description – Food Safety Technician

Summary
The Food Safety Technician is responsible for ensuring the safety of food products manufactured at our facility. Requiring a high level of attention to detail, the Food Safety Technician is responsible for monitoring, verifying, and documenting food safety programs in accordance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards. The technician will support the implementation of food safety plans (HACCP, GMPs, SOPs) and assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory bodies (e.g. CFIA) and third-party audit standards.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday from 4pm to 12:30am
Job Duties
- Ensure all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are strictly followed at all times.
- Conduct chemical evaluations to support food safety efforts
- Perform environmental monitoring (e.g. ATP swabbing, microbiological swabbing) and product testing as required
- Document and investigate food safety incidents and non-conformances; assist in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
- Accurately document all food safety checks and verify that all required checks are completed and compliant
- Prepare for and support internal, regulatory, and third-party audits
- Assist in managing documentation and communication related to product holds and releases
- Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly checks, monitoring products on the line, and enforcing GMPs
- Review and verify product labeling to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and customer specification
- Work closely with the Production and Sanitation teams to ensure product meet established food safety and quality standards
Requirements
- Post Secondary Education in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the food processing industry, specifically in fruits and vegetables, is preferred.
- in food manufacturing or quality assurance (preferred).
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, and food safety regulations (e.g. CFIA).
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong work ethic, and positive team-oriented attitude.
Working Conditions
- May require travel between locations.
- Work in cold and wet environments
- Overtime as needed, including occasional weekends and holidays
- Prolonged standing and walking required
- Must be available to work any shift based on operational needs
