We are currently looking for reliable and experienced Pipelayers / Pipe Crew Skilled Labourers to join our team.
Position Summary
As a Pipelayer / Pipe Crew Skilled Labourer, you will play an important role in the safe, accurate, and efficient installation of underground infrastructure, including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, watermain, and drainage systems.
This is a hands-on construction position suited for candidates with experience in civil pipelaying, pipe grades, trench work, and underground servicing. You will work closely with supervisors, foremen, equipment operators, and other crew members to install pipe systems according to drawings, specifications, municipal standards, and safety requirements.
The role is physically demanding and primarily outdoors. The successful candidate must be safety-focused, reliable, hardworking, and able to work in different weather and site conditions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine pipe system layout
- Assist with site preparation, trench preparation, bedding, and grading as required
- Install and align pipes for watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage systems
- Lay pipes in trenches, ensuring proper alignment, grade, and gradient
- Set structures and install pipe to proper elevations and grades
- Connect pipes using appropriate methods, tools, materials, and equipment
- Install manholes, catch basins, valve chambers, and other precast structures
- Check pipe alignment, grade, joint integrity, and overall installation quality
- Assist with pipe lasers, grade controls, and site layout under the direction of the Foreman or Supervisor
- Inspect and test installed systems for leaks, alignment issues, and deficiencies
- Perform benching and parging of manholes and catch basins
- Assist with backfilling, compaction, clean-up, and site housekeeping tasks
- Work safely alongside excavation and heavy equipment, including excavators, skid steers, dozers, and packers
- Collaborate with supervisors, equipment operators, and other crew members to maintain productivity and quality
- Identify site challenges and communicate issues to the Foreman or Supervisor
- Complete required safety checks, inspections, and daily paperwork when required
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and legislative safety standards applicable to construction
- Perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, and working in trenches
- Other duties as assigned
Required Competencies & Attributes
The successful candidate must have:
- Minimum 2 years of prior work experience in construction/civil pipelaying
- Experience with sewer, storm, watermain, or drainage pipe installation
- Strong understanding of grades, including setting structures and installing pipe to proper grades
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Knowledge of municipal and provincial standards, specifications, and guidelines
- Knowledge of legislative safety standards applicable to construction
- Experience working with pipe lasers, layout, and grade control is an asset
- Ability to inspect installed systems for leaks, alignment, and quality issues
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work safely around excavation equipment and heavy machinery
- Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude
- Ability to follow direction from site leadership and work independently when required
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding labour
- Valid G driver’s licence with a clear driver’s abstract
- Access to a reliable vehicle to travel to various construction sites
- Ability to pass required security screening and/or background checks
Preferred Experience
The following will be considered an asset:
- 3+ years of sewer and watermain installation experience
- Experience installing PVC, concrete, HDPE, and other pipe materials
- Experience installing manholes, catch basins, and valve chambers
- Experience operating or assisting with skid steers, packers, and small equipment
- Previous experience in heavy civil, municipal, or site servicing projects
