This is an exciting in-office opportunity for a planning professional who enjoys balancing production scheduling, inventory management, supplier relationships, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do
As our Master Scheduler / Buyer, you will play a critical role in ensuring production runs efficiently, materials arrive on time, and customer commitments are met.
- Translate sales forecasts and customer demand into detailed production schedules, material requirements, and capacity plans using ERP and advanced Excel-based planning tools.
- Analyze production requirements, inventory levels, and plant capabilities to optimize production flow and minimize changeovers.
- Establish and communicate production priorities across departments.
- Lead weekly production planning meetings with cross-functional teams.
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling and downtime planning with operations and maintenance teams.
- Monitor schedule attainment and make real-time production schedule adjustments in response to equipment downtime, labor constraints, changing customer priorities, and material shortages.
Purchasing & Inventory Management
- Review material requirements and issue purchase orders for raw materials and packaging.
- Manage inventory levels to support production while minimizing excess inventory.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, negative inventory reports, material variances, and transactional errors to identify root causes and implement corrective actions that improve inventory accuracy and system integrity.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, service, and on-time delivery.
- Expedite materials and resolve supplier issues related to shortages, delays, quality concerns, or delivery performance.
- Coordinate transportation and customs documentation for incoming materials.
- Maintain ERP transaction discipline through accurate purchase order processing, receipt matching, inventory transactions, and timely system updates.
Supplier Management & Continuous Improvement
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and service agreements with suppliers.
- Identify and qualify new supply sources when required.
- Establish and maintain purchasing procedures and best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost savings, efficiency, and service improvements.
- Monitor supplier performance and proactively address risks that may impact production continuity.
- Manage supplier drawdowns and release schedules to ensure contracted inventory is available when required.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience in production scheduling, purchasing, inventory control, supply chain, or related functions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to analyze data and support day-to-day operational decision-making.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Purchasing, Logistics, Food Production, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of HACCP and/or BRC standards.
- Experience coordinating suppliers, inventory, and production schedules in a manufacturing environment.
