About K9 Gourmet
K9 Gourmet Ltd. has been pioneering artisan raw pet food in Toronto since 2018 — hand-preparing whole-food BARF meal plans for dogs, cats, and ferrets using 100% human-grade ingredients. No blending. No grinding. No shortcuts.
Every meal is built by hand: muscle meat, secreting organs, raw meaty bones, and species-appropriate supplements — because that's what animals are biologically designed to eat. We've spent years proving the model. Now we're scaling it.
This is a ground-floor opportunity. You won't be managing a legacy operation — you'll be helping build one, with a clear path to running it.
What This Role Actually Looks Like — Day One In the early stage, you are the prep lead as much as you are the operations lead. Before a dedicated kitchen team is in place, you will be hands-on: portioning raw duck, turkey, beef organs, and whole fish — following species-specific ratios, sanitising prep surfaces, and packing completed orders for cold delivery. If that environment isn't for you, this role isn't the right fit. If it excites you, read on.What You'll Do
- Hands-on meal prep — portioning and assembling raw meals to species-specific ratios (muscle meat, organs, raw meaty bones)
- Maintain cold chain from ingredient intake to packaged delivery — refrigeration, labelling, FIFO rotation
- Sanitise prep surfaces and equipment to raw food handling standards after every session
- Oversee daily scheduling and batch production
- Manage supplier relationships and ingredient inventory
- Build and manage a small kitchen and delivery team as volume grows
- Support customer onboarding and retention
- Track production logs, costs, and report weekly to the founder
- Maintain and evolve SOPs as the business scales
Must Have
- Basic kitchen or meal prep experience — comfortable portioning, weighing, and handling raw proteins
- Ability to follow prep protocols and maintain hygiene in a raw food environment
- Food handler certification (or willingness to obtain before start)
- 2+ years in operations, food service, or team management
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Based in Toronto or GTA with reliable transportation
- Self-directed — works well without micromanagement
- Genuine love for animals and real food
Nice to Have
- Experience in butchery, catering, food production, or commercial meal prep
- Background in raw pet food, veterinary, or animal nutrition
- Familiarity with BARF / species-appropriate feeding
- Experience hiring and managing a small team
- Startup or small business background
- Basic bookkeeping or inventory software knowledge
