Face-to-Face Fundraiser / Canvasser - GTA Mall Team
$19/hr to start + bonuses | $20/hr after evaluation | 32-40 hours/week | Greater Toronto Area
We're hiring outgoing, motivated people to join our GTA face-to-face fundraising teams, with current hiring focused primarily on our mall teams.
You'll represent nonprofit and charitable organizations working on important issues such as children's health, mental health, healthcare, and community wellbeing. You'll learn about the campaign you're representing, talk with members of the public about the work being done, and inspire people to get involved by becoming monthly donors.
Our teams fundraise in different settings across the GTA, and depending on campaign and staffing needs, you may also be placed with or scheduled to support one of our street or door-to-door fundraising teams.
If you're social, energetic, comfortable approaching new people, and looking for meaningful work, you might be a great fit.
What face-to-face fundraising across the GTA looks like:
Our mall teams fundraise at shopping centres throughout the GTA, including locations such as:
- CF Toronto Eaton Centre
- Hillcrest Mall
- Upper Canada Mall
- Pickering Town Centre
While we're primarily recruiting for our mall teams right now, flexibility is an important part of the role. Campaigns, fundraising locations, and team needs can change, so you may occasionally work with one of our street or door-to-door teams elsewhere in the GTA.
Our teams fundraise at different locations throughout the GTA. Teams carpool when possible, and we'll do our best to coordinate transportation where it makes sense. However, carpooling can't always be guaranteed, so you'll still need to have a reliable way to get to your assigned location.
Wherever you're fundraising, this is an active, public-facing role. You'll spend most of your shift on your feet, approaching people, starting conversations, and fundraising face-to-face.
One more thing we want to be upfront about:
This is a goal-oriented fundraising job.
You'll speak with lots of people each day to inspire them to become monthly donors for the nonprofit you're representing.
You'll get paid training, ongoing coaching, and plenty of support from your team, but fundraising can be challenging. You'll hear "no" a lot, and not every conversation turns into a donation.
Your performance will be regularly coached and evaluated based on your ability to engage the public and successfully sign up new donors.
If you're resilient, motivated by clear goals, open to feedback, and get satisfaction from improving your results, you'll love the challenge.
Who we're looking for:
Come as you are.
We think work is better when you can actually be yourself. Our team includes members of the LGBTQ+ community, and creating a space where people feel safe, respected, supported, and welcome is genuinely important to us.
You don't need fundraising experience - we'll teach you that. We're looking for people who bring energy, resilience, and curiosity, and who are comfortable being coached and working toward measurable goals.
You might be a great fit if you:
- Are naturally social and comfortable starting conversations with strangers
- Enjoy working in busy, public environments
- Are motivated by goals and like seeing yourself improve
- Can stay positive and keep going after hearing "no"
- Are comfortable receiving regular feedback and coaching
- Enjoy getting people excited about taking action
- Are reliable and looking for a consistent schedule of at least 32 hours per week
- Are available to work at least one weekend day
- Are comfortable being on your feet for most of your shift
- Can reliably travel to different fundraising locations throughout the GTA
- Are flexible about working in malls, on the street, or door-to-door depending on team needs
- Care about causes related to children's health, mental health, healthcare, and stronger communities
- Want to build your communication, confidence, and leadership skills
You don't need to check every box or come with fundraising experience. If you're someone who likes people, cares about making a difference, can handle hearing "no," and is motivated to improve with coaching, we'd love to hear from you.
This could be a great fit if you're a canvasser, community organizer, recent graduate, hospitality or customer service professional, salesperson, volunteer, performer, or someone looking to break into the nonprofit world.
Why join our team?
You'll get to:
- Advocate for important causes related to children's health, mental health, healthcare, and community wellbeing
- Help nonprofit organizations build sustainable support through monthly giving
- Get paid training from your first day
- Build confidence, communication, and leadership skills
- Work alongside a supportive, social team
- Take on more responsibility as you develop
- Get experience you can take into nonprofit, advocacy, sales, communications, or leadership roles
- Grow your career with a company that promotes from within
If you get good at this, there's room to move up.
All of our leaders started as fundraisers, learned to hit their goals, and developed the skills to coach others to do the same. Along the way, our leaders have built their resumes, developed real leadership experience, and turned a fundraising job into a career.
Fundraising can also be a stepping stone into the nonprofit sector, giving you hands-on experience in advocacy, donor engagement, communication, and community outreach.
Schedule
Our teams are looking for candidates who can maintain a consistent schedule of at least 32 hours per week, with full-time availability strongly preferred.
To join one of our GTA teams, you'll need to be able to commit to:
- A minimum of 32 hours per week
- Full, 8-hr fundraising shifts rather than short or partial shifts
- Travelling to assigned fundraising locations throughout the GTA
- Some flexibility between mall, street, and door-to-door fundraising depending on campaign and staffing needs
We're primarily hiring for our mall teams right now, but your team or fundraising channel may change depending on where you're most needed.
Get paid for your time - not just your results
- $19/hour to start - you're not working on commission, and your hourly wage isn't dependent on how many donors you sign up
- $20/hour after evaluation
- Paid training from day one
- Performance-based bonuses and incentives on top of your hourly pay
- Opportunities to grow into leadership and advance your career
- Health and dental benefits for eligible full-time employees after 6 months of full-time work
- Paid time off
- Employee assistance resources and support when you need it
Bottom line: you're paid an hourly wage from day one - not commission - with opportunities to increase your hourly rate and earn additional bonuses as you develop.
Before you apply
Please make sure the logistics of the role work for you:
- You must be 18+
- You must be legally authorized to work in Canada without employer sponsorship
- You must be able to consistently work at least 32 hours per week
- You must be comfortable standing, walking, and talking with members of the public for most of your shift
- You must be able to reliably travel to assigned fundraising locations throughout the GTA
- You should be comfortable working in mall, street, or door-to-door fundraising environments depending on campaign and team needs
- You need to be able to communicate confidently in English, since you'll be having lots of conversations with people throughout the day
No fundraising experience? No problem - we'll provide paid training and ongoing coaching. What matters is being ready for the challenge: talking to lots of people, hearing "no," working toward fundraising goals, taking feedback, and continuing to improve.
