About Us:

The SPCA Swift Current (SPCASC) is dedicated to advocating and promoting humane, responsible animal guardianship while providing shelter, care, and adoption opportunities for animals in need. We provide a safe, nurturing environment for animals in need and strive to find them loving homes. Our team is passionate about animal welfare and committed to providing the highest standards of care.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides overall leadership, vision and strategic direction for the SPCASC. This role is responsible for managing the organization’s operations, administration, finances, fundraising, community outreach and public relations.

The Executive Director oversees all organizational activities, including the animal shelter, adoption services, veterinary centre, crematorium, retail operations, community programs, and municipal partnerships. Working closely with the Board, staff, volunteers, donors, and community stakeholders, the Executive Director will lead organizational growth, strengthen financial sustainability, and foster a positive, high-performing team culture.

This is an exciting opportunity to help guide the organization through its next chapter, including the transition into the new Stauber Family Memorial Animal Shelter facility. We are seeking a collaborative and experienced leader with strong management and governance experience, a passion for animal welfare, and a desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of animals and the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy

· In collaboration with the Board of Directors, develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and programs that align with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.

· Provide visionary and operational leadership for the organization.

· Lead organizational growth initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation.

Operations Management

· Ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the SPCASC, including animal care, adoption services, administration, program management, and community outreach.

· Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and development of staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

· Manage the service agreements and operating grants with local municipalities.

· Ensure all organizational policies and procedures are up to date and adhered to by staff and volunteers.

· Ensure policy compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Fundraising and Financial Management

· In collaboration with the Finance Committee, develop and manage the annual budget and ensure responsible stewardship of the organization resources and long term financial stability.

· Provide overall oversight and accountability for the organization's financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with applicable regulatory and audit requirements.

· Monitor organizational revenues and expenses, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and operations remain aligned with approved budgets and strategic priorities.

Lead the organization's fundraising and philanthropic development efforts, including donor relations, sponsorships, grants, major gifts, legacy giving, and community partnerships.

Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, sponsors, community partners and grant-making organizations to secure financial support for the long-term sustainability of the organization.

· Lead fundraising initiatives and special events to secure financial support.

· Identify and pursue grant opportunities, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and successful grant administration.

Public Relations and External Relations

· Serve as the primary spokesperson for the SPCASC, promoting its mission and programs to the media, government and community.

Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, government agencies, community partners, and other key stakeholders.

· Oversee organizational communications, marketing, branding, website, social media, and public engagement strategies.

· Oversee the development and implementation of community education and outreach programs to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership

Board Relations

· Provide timely, relevant, and accurate information to the Board regarding operations, human resources and the organization’s strategic goals/objectives, enabling informed decision making.

· Attend and actively participate in all Board meetings and committee meetings as required.

· Support the Board in governance and strategic planning, ensuring strategic priorities are translated into operational plans, measurable outcomes, and organizational accountability.

Qualifications and Education

· Certificate, Diploma, or bachelor's degree in Non-profit Management, Business Administration, Animal Science or a related field or a combination of education and demonstrable experience.

· Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.

· Experience reporting to a Board of Directors or serving as a member of a Board of Directors preferred.

· Strong financial management, budgeting, and fundraising skills.

· Strong grant-writing abilities.

· Excellent Interpersonal communication skills.

· Strong leadership and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff and volunteers.

· A demonstrated dedication and commitment to animal welfare and the mission of the SPCASC.

· Current knowledge of animal welfare regulations and best practices.

· Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.

· Self-directed, takes initiative, creative and adaptable; able to work in a team and independently.

· Experience in an office environment and using office technology.

· Possesses a current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Possess a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

This is mostly an in-office position. However, some travel may be required to attend meetings with stakeholders, donors, etc.

Salary

Compensation range is $60,000 to $100,000 depending on relevant experience.
