South East Welding Ltd. is seeking an experienced Machinist & Team Lead to join our manufacturing team in Cap-Pelé, New Brunswick.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled machinist who can produce accurate, high-quality parts while helping organize daily machine-shop work, support team members, and keep projects moving efficiently. The ideal candidate will have experience operating manual machining equipment, reading technical drawings, planning machining processes, and maintaining strong quality and safety standards.
South East Welding Ltd. manufactures custom stainless steel and aluminum equipment for the seafood processing industry, including conveyors, processing tables, racks, platforms, guards, cookers, and other custom machinery.
Duties
- Set up, operate, and maintain manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and general shop equipment
- Machine quality parts accurately according to drawings, tolerances, and job requirements
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
- Determine appropriate machining methods, tooling, setups, and production processes for each job
- Inspect completed parts using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to ensure they meet specifications
- Lead and support daily machine-shop operations by helping prioritize work, coordinate jobs, and keep projects on schedule
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to other machinists or shop employees as needed
- Work closely with the fabrication, assembly, design, and management teams to solve production or machining issues
- Occasionally assist with assembly of custom seafood processing equipment
- Maintain machinery, tooling, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition
- Follow all company safety procedures and quality-control requirements
Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience as a machinist is required
- Strong experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and general machine-shop equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes
- Experience planning setups, selecting tooling, and determining efficient machining methods
- CNC machining experience is considered an asset
- Previous experience leading, supervising, or mentoring a team is preferred
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
- Excellent problem-solving, time-management, and mathematical skills
- Ability to work independently while also supporting a team environment
- Food processing equipment manufacturing experience is considered a strong asset
- Experience working with stainless steel and aluminum is an asset
- Employee is required to provide their own measuring tools
