Compensation: $28.06-$31.11 per hour

The Role:
The Sexual Assault Services Worker supports individuals of all ages, genders and ethnic backgrounds impacted by sexual violence. The Worker supports vulnerable and/or at-risk clients through individual and group support as well as outreach. Areas covered are along the Sunshine Coast increasing safety and access to other resources. In addition, this position plays a significant role in providing resources and information to youth-serving organizations, schools and caregivers. This position reports to the Lead, Community Based Victim Services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide information, referrals and emotional support around the dynamics and impact of relationship violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and family violence

Answer and respond to calls on the CBVS Outreach Line and offer emotional support, debriefing and referrals to resources and other practical assistance

Provide education and awareness in the community about sexual assault and the resources available for survivors

Develop a coordinated response with high schools to effectively serve youth who have been impacted by sexual violence to increase knowledge of and access to practical and emotional support, criminal justice system information and support, access to medical care and forensic exams, safety planning, and other supports

Increase accessibility and service seeking through outreach and engagement services, including working in collaboration with the TAV Team, VCH Forensic Nurse Team, SCCSS Youth Team, Indigenous communities, RCMP, other organizations, and groups

Liaise with other services and agencies to promote the prevention of sexual assault

Deliver youth-specific services understanding the cultural and developmental needs of youth, including Indigenous youth for disclosed sexual assault incidents.

Return calls from teachers, staff, parents, and youth to increase knowledge, answer questions, and encourage service seeking

Maintains daily program records and other administrative systems such as monthly program statistics, files, timesheets, phone log, program emails and other communications systems

Collaborate with the shíshálh Nation to develop and implement specific training to enhance services for Indigenous youth and strategies to engage families, elders, and communities to support and respond to survivors

Maintain awareness of community resources including gaps, as well as the socio-economic and geographical make-up of the community

Consult with social workers, other professionals, and families when appropriate

Adhere to SCCSS policies and procedures and meet all legal, contractual, financial, and other compliance requirements such as CARF

Represent SCCSS in a positive and professional manner

May be requested to assist with other duties to aid with the efficient operation of the organization.
Qualifications:
-
Degree or diploma in the social service/child and youth care or a related field plus two years of relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Have a good understanding of, and experience working with youth individually and in a group setting
-
Have experience and a solid understanding of trauma-informed and harm reduction practice
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate appointments and events after school and in the evenings

Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt to accommodate developmental needs

Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals
-
Experience working effectively and in a non-judgmental manner with clients from different cultures, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds

Experience applying a feminist analysis of gender violence as it affects children, youth and trans folks
-
Victim Services on-line or in person training an asset.

Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite

Strong skills using technology platforms utilized by youth
- Excellent organizational and communication skills

Current First Aid

Successful result of a Criminal Record check

Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle required
Working Conditions

This position may work alone, one-to-one with clients with little to no supervision.

This position works in a variety of locations including community settings and a typical office environment.
