Position Summary
The 4th Class Power Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of boiler systems and dry kiln operations. This role also involves performing equipment maintenance, operating mobile equipment, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, test, and maintain boiler systems in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on plant equipment.
- Identify and implement safety and operational improvements.
- Operate lumber dry kilns according to drying specifications and production schedules.
- Maintain accurate records of boiler and kiln operations.
- Operate mobile equipment, including forklifts and loaders, safely and efficiently.
- Assist with equipment modifications, installations, and general plant maintenance.
- Respond to after-hours calls as part of the on-call rotation.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of safety and productivity.
Schedule Requirements
- On-call evenings every second week.
- Work every second weekend to perform required boiler testing and monitoring.
- Overtime as required to support operational needs.
Qualifications
- Valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate, or currently enrolled and actively working toward certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to learn all aspects of dry kiln operations.
- Ability to work weekends and participate in the on-call rotation.
- Experience with dry kiln operations is considered a strong asset.
- Kiln Drying Certification (Pine) or willingness to obtain certification is preferred.
