About 5buds Cannabis
5buds Cannabis is Saskatchewan’s premier SLGA-certified cannabis retail establishment. We pride ourselves on delivering top-tier cannabis products, data-driven retail execution, and an unmatched customer experience across our growing footprint in the province.
Position Summary
We are seeking an analytical, sales-focused, and highly independent District Manager to oversee our retail operations across Saskatchewan. Based out of Saskatoon, you will be the driving force behind store performance, operational excellence, and strict regulatory alignment. As a proficient problem solver who thrives with minimal supervision, you will ensure every location meets aggressive sales targets while maintaining 100% compliance with federal, provincial (SLGA), and internal 5buds frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance & Policy Enforcement
- Absolute Compliance: Ensure all assigned locations operate in absolute compliance with the Cannabis Act (Federal), Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) regulations, and all internal 5buds policies.
- Audit Readiness: Conduct rigorous operational and inventory audits during site visits to eliminate risks associated with compliance infractions, tracking errors, or minor-aging policies.
- Risk Mitigation: Act swiftly to correct any procedural gaps that could threaten retail licensing or store integrity.
2. Analytical Sales Leadership
- Performance Metrics: Analyze regional POS data, inventory turn rates, and local market trends to identify margin-expansion and volume-growth opportunities.
- Target Accountability: Partner with Store Leaders to establish, monitor, and achieve monthly and annual sales KPIs and budgets.
- Action Planning: Develop and execute tailored recovery and sales strategy action plans for underperforming locations.
3. Field Operations & Travel Infrastructure
- Quarterly Cadence: Maintain a strict physical presence across the district, traveling 50% to 75% of the time to audit, train, and support each retail location at least once per quarter.
- Mystery Shop Intervention: Actively manage the 5buds Mystery Shop program. In the event that a location fails a mystery shop inspection, you will immediately pivot to a mandatory once-a-month visit protocol for that location until performance, compliance, and service metrics consistently meet company standards.
- Talent Bench Building: "Build and maintain a robust talent bench by identifying high-potential leaders across all assigned locations."
- Mentorship: "Provide hands-on coaching, shadow opportunities, and strategic assignments to prepare Store Managers for multi-unit responsibility."
4. Independent Problem Solving & Support
- Autonomous Decision Making: Serve as the frontline solution provider for complex store issues, ranging from localized staffing issues to technical POS discrepancies, operating with a high degree of independence.
- Reporting: Deliver streamlined, data-backed regional performance reports and strategic recommendations directly to the Regional Sales Manager.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of multi-unit retail management experience (District Manager or Area Manager level), ideally within regulated industries such as Cannabis, Liquor, or Pharmacy.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep working familiarity with the federal Cannabis Act and Saskatchewan SLGA cannabis retail frameworks.
- Analytical Prowess: Highly financially literate; proven ability to read financial statements, translate retail data analytics into actionable sales strategies, and manage labor budgets effectively.
- Independence & Problem Solving: A self-starter mentality with a proven track record of solving multi-faceted operational issues remotely without micro-management.
- Travel Readiness: Willingness and capability to travel 50–75% of the time via vehicle across Saskatchewan highway routes in all seasonal conditions.
- Prerequisites: Must hold a clean, valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and be able to pass all provincial security screening requirements necessary to work in the Saskatchewan cannabis industry (including CannaSell SK certification).
Note to Candidates: This position requires frequent travel and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on retail operational needs and travel schedules.
