We are seeking a motivated, full-time Junior Civil Infrastructure Surveyor and Estimator to join our project team.
In this entry-level role, you will work closely with our senior project manager to support the delivery of landscape and civil projects, including parks, urban squares, streetscapes, subdivision area grading, soundwalls, water treatment facilities, roads, and storm systems.
You will gain hands-on experience split between on-site spatial data collection and office-based quantity takeoffs, helping to ensure our infrastructure projects are built accurately and on budget. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided to the right candidate, but applicants with prior surveying or estimating experience are equally encouraged to apply.
Core Responsibilities
- Field Survey Support: Assist senior surveyors in utilizing traditional methods, GPS, and drones to establish site layouts, map existing topography, and verify grade elevations.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Review civil engineering drawings and blueprints to calculate volume and material counts for earthworks, asphalt, concrete, and utility piping.
- Estimation Assistance: Input takeoff data into estimation software to help build cost models for labor, materials, and heavy equipment rentals.
- As-Built Documentation: Collect on-site measurements during construction phases to compile “as-built” data, tracking deviations from the original design plans.
- Bid Inquiries: Help prepare tender packages by coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors to collect material quotes for civil utility components.
- Data Management: Maintain organized digital logs of field survey points, material delivery tickets, and cost tracking sheets.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Educational Background: Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Experience Level: 0 to 2 years of experience; previous internship or co-op experience in heavy civil construction or surveying is highly valued.
- Technical Software: Exposure to or basic training in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or civil takeoff software (e.g., AGTEK, HeavyBid, Bluebeam) through coursework or internships.
- Math & Analytical Skills: Strong foundations in geometry and trigonometry for spatial calculations and volumetric data analysis.
- Licensing: A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required for traveling between municipal project sites.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Site & Office Split: Expect a highly active hybrid schedule, with roughly 50–60% of your time spent outdoors on active civil construction sites and the remainder in the office.
- Weather & Terrain: Comfort working outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions (heat, rain, snow) and navigating rough, unpaved terrain.
- Safety Mindset: Strict adherence to PPE requirements and heavy civil site safety protocols around large machinery.
