We are building a new position from scratch and we want you to build it with us.
Right now our plumbers are in people's homes diagnosing real problems. Bad sewer lines, dead water heaters, systems that are 40 years old and held together with hope. Our job is to give every one of those homeowners a real set of choices instead of one take-it-or-leave-it number.
That means six options on every service call. Premium down to band-aid. Full replacement at the top, get-you-through-the-winter at the bottom, and four real choices in between. The homeowner picks. Nobody gets pressured, nobody gets talked down to, and nobody gets stuck with a repair they did not understand.
Your job is to make that happen on every single call. You are the person behind the tech.
What you will actually do
Build the options. A tech finishes their diagnosis in the field and sends you the photos, the videos, and the notes. You take that and build a clean six-option sheet with real pricing out of our price book. You will use AI tools to do the heavy lifting. We are not asking you to type all this out by hand, we are asking you to be the person who knows how to get a good answer out of the machine and then check it before it goes to a customer. Speed matters here. Right now a good estimate takes about an hour. We want it in ten minutes.
Build and test the AI tooling itself. This is a core part of the job, not a side task. You will design and refine the prompt library that turns a field diagnosis into six priced options. You will test what the AI produces against our price book and our real job costs, find where it gets things wrong, and fix the inputs so it stops getting them wrong. You will track accuracy over time, document what works, and hand off a tested AI workflow that somebody else can run. If you like taking a tool apart to figure out why it does what it does, this part of the job is yours.
Support the presentation. While the tech is still at the house, you are on the phone or on video helping them walk the homeowner through the options. You are the second voice. You keep the tech on script when they drift and you help the customer when they are stuck.
Review what happened. Every call gets recorded and summarized. After the fact you go through it with the tech. What landed, what did not, where they lost the customer, where they nailed it. Then you practice the rough spots with them before their next call. This is coaching, not policing. Nobody improves if they feel hunted.
Build the system. This is the part most internships do not give you. There is no binder for this role because the role does not exist yet. You are writing it. The process, the templates, the tested AI workflow, the checklists, the training for whoever comes next. At the end of three months we should be able to hand your work to a new person and have them running inside a week.
Who we are looking for
You are enrolled in a post-secondary program. Business, sales, marketing, communications, commerce, tech, we are not fussy about the label.
You need to be sharp on a computer. Not "I can do email." We mean you pick up new software fast, you are comfortable in a spreadsheet, and you do not need someone standing over your shoulder.
You need to already be using AI, and you need to be curious about how it works, not just what it spits out. ChatGPT, Claude, whatever you run. If you have never opened one, this is not your role. If you use it every day, you write real prompts, and you have opinions about what it is good at and where it lies to you, keep reading.
You are a natural talker. On the phone, on video, in writing. Plumbing is a trust business and you will be talking to people on a bad day about money they did not plan to spend.
You have led something. A team, a crew, a club, a project, a shift. We do not care if it was a corporate title. We care that people have followed you before and it went okay.
Sales experience is a big plus. Not required, but it will move you up the list and it will move you up the pay range.
You learn fast and you do not need to be chased. Three months is not long. We need someone who is useful in week two.
Pay
$20.00 to $32.50 per hour.
Where you land in that range is on you. We look at how fast you pick things up, how you carry yourself with our customers and our crew, how much drive you show, and whether the system you were hired to build actually gets built. Start low and climb, or come in high and prove it. Either way the range is real and so is the review.
What happens at the end
This is a three-month contract, straight up. No games about it.
At the end we look at what got built and what it did for the business. If it worked and you want to stay, we talk about a permanent role with more responsibility. If it did not, the contract ends and you walk out with a system you built from nothing and a reference from an owner who watched you do it.
We are also honest about the other possibility. If this position turns into something bigger than the person filling it, we may bring in someone with more leadership mileage. Best way to make sure that person is you is to make yourself hard to replace.
The setup
Remote or in the office at Arthur Rose Avenue. Your call. If you go remote you need decent internet and a quiet place to take video calls, because you will be on a lot of them.
Hours are regular business hours, Monday to Friday. Some calls run late in the day. Plumbing does not always cooperate.
You will be working directly with the owner and with our field crew. Small shop, no layers, no waiting three weeks for a decision.
About us
Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Saskatoon does plumbing, drains, and underground sewer work across the city and the surrounding area. We specialize in trenchless sewer replacement, which means we fix sewer lines without tearing up somebody's front yard when we can avoid it.
We are not the cheapest and we do not try to be. We are the shop that shows up, explains the whole picture, and gives people options.
This position is supported by the Student Work Placement Program.
How to apply
Send a resume and a short note telling us about a time you used an AI tool to do something that would have taken you a lot longer by hand. Tell us what you asked it, what it gave you, and what you had to fix.
Applications go to [email protected] with "Sales & Leadership Intern" in the subject line.
We read every one.
