POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Childminding Caregiver/ Youth Leader is part of the Y’s Health, Membership and Recreation team. The Childminding Caregiver/ Youth Leader will work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers to develop and deliver programming designed to cater to the physical, mental and social health of local children and youth. As a child-minding caregiver, the primary focus is to interact and actively engage with children 3 months -5 years by forming relationships with children and their families to create a safe, welcoming environment for all. As Youth Leader, the successful applicant will engage and supervise youth participating in YMCA Youth and Sports programming and will ensure an enjoyable safe and inclusive environment for youth and family participants of various skills and abilities.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Youth Leader
- Effectively plan, organize and lead scheduled sports and youth programs and activities.
- Employ inclusive and adaptive programming principles to cater to all participating members and resource additional support as deemed necessary.
- Set-up and supervise Drop-in and Scheduled Sports Programs.
- Scheduling and administrative duties including sign in/ sign out.
- Maintain a safe and organized area both during and outside of core programming hours.
- Maintain program and facility equipment, during activity set up and tear down; in a clean and orderly manner.
- Communicate and enforce facility guidelines to ensure a safe and controlled environment while paying keen attention to accident/incident prevention.
- Understanding of Child Protection Policies and Practices.
- Act as a coach, teammate and mentor to participating youth & Families.
- Assume additional duties including workshops, training, conferences and staff meetings as required.
- Encourage and engage youth to participate in discussions, planning and facilitation of Youth Programs, as well as; developing youth volunteer opportunities both within the programs and the community.
- Act as a positive role model, effectively guiding youth behavior and actions.
Childminding Caregiver
- Demonstrate a commitment to children’s learning and is responsive to research.
- Understand each child and their family’s specific needs and plans for successful outcomes.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures outlined in the YMCA Southwestern New Brunswick employee and child care policy manuals.
- Effectively plan, organize and supervise daily childminding programming and activities.
- Employ inclusive and adaptive programming principles to cater to all participating youth and resource additional support as deemed necessary.
- To greet, engage in conversation and provide exceptional Y experiences.
- To accurately track participant participation on a daily basis.
- To have knowledge of all programs and service the Y offers.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High School or Post-Secondary Education.
- Experience working with children; Sport and Youth Programs an asset.
- Possess a strong work ethic and excellent organization skills.
- An excellent team player able to share cooperative leadership with other staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search along with clearance from the Department of Social Development.
