POSITION SUMMARY
The Outreach Coordinator reports to the Outreach Manager and is responsible for providing referrals and resources to older adults who contact the Society.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists the Executive Director and Outreach Manager in setting annual goals, objectives, and supports and services for the Outreach Program.
2. Understands that authority to provide new services or supports must have prior approval from the Executive Director or Outreach Manager.
3. Receives and follows-up on referrals involving adults over 50 years of age.
4. Assesses older adults and provides them with resources, information and referrals to Society programs and outside agencies/programs related to their stated issues.
5. Monitor clients who have been identified as "at risk".
6. Maintains comprehensive and accurate statistical data to help meet reporting requirements.
7. Maintains client files by keeping accurate notes of client interactions.
8. Acts as a resource or contact person for groups operating in or in conjunction with the Society.
9. Works cooperatively with other staff to plan, implement and evaluate Outreach programs of the Society.
10. Maintains a current knowledge of community services and opportunities through networking, presentations and cooperative projects as approved by the Executive Director and Outreach Manager.
11. Maintains a current knowledge of legislation, benefits and government programs which affect older adults.
12. Assists with updating the resource lists available for the public
13. Maintains a level of education and knowledge through regular, appropriate professional development as approved by the Executive Director.
14. Understands and acts in accordance with the policies outlined in the Society Policy Manual.
15. Participates in duties as aptitudes and education dictate, such as:
a. Orientate, supervise and coordinate practicum students.
b. Participate in Elder Abuse Initiatives
16. Participate in Health and Safety activities as directed by the Executive Director and Outreach Manager.
17. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Outreach Manager.
Qualifications
1. A background in Human Services with a minimum two (2) year diploma in Social Work, Nursing, Gerontology, or psychology, supplemented by related community experience. A combination of practical experience and education may be considered.
2. Experience with providing support and referrals.
3. Strong organizational, interpersonal skills and computer skills.
4. Knowledge of Red Deer’s supports and services and proven ability to navigate the social welfare and public health systems.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to issues related to older adults.
6. Ability to work independently within a team environment.
7. Excellent understanding and experience in creating and maintaining boundaries.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Outreach Coordinator will:
1. Report directly to the Outreach Manager.
2. Work closely with all staff of the Society.
3. If educational background permits, supervise practicum students.
4. Represent the Golden Circle/Circle of Red Deer Seniors Society at community initiatives as approved or requested by the Executive Director or Outreach Manager.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a term position until March 2027, with the possibility of extension pending funding.
The regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional evening and weekend work as required by Golden Circle events and activities and/or community events and activities.
Employment is subject to a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
Travel within Central Alberta is required; one must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
SALARY
$22.00 to $24.00/hour for 37.5 hours per week. Benefits are available after three months, and RRSP matching is available after 1 year.
This is a salaried position and is not overtime eligible.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
The Outreach Coordinator will serve a three- (3) month probation period. If probation is successfully passed, performance evaluations are completed annually.
