Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is seeking a Numeracy Support Lead Teacher who will build teacher capacity and provide teacher support in implementing the updated Alberta Education curriculum, and analyze the mandatory provincial screening assessments. Because this is a leadership role focused on mentorship and coaching rather than administration, it centers around collaboration, instructional strategy, and data-driven intervention.
Role
The primary goal of the Numeracy Support Lead Teacher is to enhance student achievement in mathematics by supporting classroom teachers with the new math curriculum. They will bridge the gap between educational research and classroom practice, ensuring that all students, especially those requiring targeted interventions, develop strong foundational number sense and mathematical reasoning.
Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching & Mentorship

Collaborative Planning: Help teachers design long-range plans, unit designs, and lesson progressions that align tightly with the new Alberta math curriculum.

Co-Teaching and Modeling: Plan and co-teach lessons alongside classroom teachers to model high-yield, research-based numeracy practices.

Feedback Loops: Observe classroom math instruction and provide non-evaluative, actionable feedback to teachers to support their professional growth.
Assessment, Screening & Data Analysis

Provincial Screener Support: Support schools in analysing the mandatory numeracy screeners results to identify specific gaps in foundational number knowledge.

Support teachers in developing effective in class assessments based on the new math curriculum.
Targeted Intervention Design & Multi-Tiered Support

Help teachers design and differentiate Tier 1 (whole class) instruction and Tier 2/3 (small group or individual) interventions.

Resource Curation: Guide teachers in using approved intervention resources, structured lessons, and resources found on New LearnAlberta or created by the division.

Create resource to identify where students are low in numeracy - what skills are the students are missing Professional Development (PD) Leadership.

Facilitating Workshops: Design and deliver school or division-wide professional development sessions on emerging math pedagogy.
