KNRLP provides forestry, road construction and maintenance, civil construction, mining support, equipment services, sawmilling, and other industrial services throughout northern British Columbia.
Position Summary
KNRLP is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators for remote road construction, forestry, civil, and resource-development projects. The successful candidates will be safety-focused, dependable, and able to operate independently as part of a coordinated field crew in remote camp conditions.
Operators with experience on one or more of the following types of equipment are encouraged to apply:
· Excavator
· Crawler tractor (dozer)
· Motor grader
· Rock truck
· Skidder
· Feller buncher
Key Responsibilities
· Safely operate assigned heavy equipment in accordance with manufacturer requirements, company procedures, and site-specific plans.
· Complete road construction and upgrading activities, including pioneering, subgrade preparation, ditching, sloping, finishing, and road maintenance.
· Install culverts and drainage structures, including excavation, bedding, placement, backfilling, compaction, and erosion-control work.
· Assist with bridge installation and removal, including site preparation, abutment work, structure placement, decking, approaches, and site cleanup.
· Complete gravel loading, hauling, placement, spreading, grading, and compaction activities.
· Support forestry operations, including skidding, bunching, right-of-way clearing, and deck management, where qualified.
· Conduct daily pre-use inspections and complete equipment logbooks, field reports, and required safety documentation.
· Identify equipment defects, communicate maintenance needs, and assist with routine servicing and minor repairs where qualified.
· Participate in toolbox meetings, hazard assessments, inspections, and incident reporting.
· Work cooperatively with supervisors, surveyors, truck drivers, labourers, mechanics, and other equipment operators to meet production and quality targets.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and protect the environment, watercourses, infrastructure, and cultural values.
Required Qualifications
· Minimum three years of recent experience operating at least one of the listed equipment types in road construction, forestry, civil construction, or mining-support work.
· Applicants must be able to demonstrate competency on each piece of equipment they are hired to operate. KNRLP may conduct practical equipment assessments before or during employment.
· Experience with road building, culvert installation, bridge installation, gravel placement, and road maintenance, including reading grade stakes and basic construction drawings, subgrade preparation, road crown construction, ditching, drainage, fill placement, compaction, finish grading, and gravel spreading.
· Ability to follow grade stakes, construction plans, supervisor direction, and environmental requirements.
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
· Ability to safely work a 10-days-on / 4-days-off rotation in a remote camp environment. Shifts may be up to 12 hours per day and may include weekends, statutory holidays, occasional night work, and schedule changes based on project requirements.
· Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and terrain conditions and to perform the physical requirements of the position.
· Strong understanding of safe equipment operation, hazard recognition, and radio communication.
· Reliable, team-oriented, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience operating multiple equipment types.
· Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement.
· Current Occupational First Aid, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Ground Disturbance, S-100, or equivalent safety training.
· Experience working under the Mines Act or on active mine sites.
· Experience working in remote First Nations communities or within Indigenous-owned businesses.
· Mechanical aptitude and experience completing routine equipment maintenance.
Additional Considerations
· Preference may be given to qualified Kwadacha Nation members and Indigenous applicants in support of KNRLP’s employment and capacity-building objectives.
· Camp accommodation and meals will be provided while working at remote project sites, where applicable.
· Transportation to and from remote project sites will be provided from Prince George in accordance with project schedules and KNRLP policy.
· Successful applicants may be required to complete a pre-employment fit-for-duty assessment, drug and alcohol testing where required by the client or project, and provide copies of applicable licences and certificates.
Compensation & Benefits
· $30.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience, demonstrated equipment competency, and project requirements.
· Overtime and statutory holiday pay in accordance with applicable employment standards.
