Camp Counsellor — Camp Buchan
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator/Summer Camp Director
JOB SUMMARY
A camp counsellor is primarily responsible for the well-being and safety of youth participants while at camp. They coordinate engaging activities for the campers, develop new programs, and supervise campers to make sure they are safe and happy. The most important responsibility is to ensure campers are always safe. Being reliable and able to build good relationships with children are two essential traits for this role. This role starts at 17.00 an hour.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Supervising young campers at all times
- Leading recreational and educational activities (such as swimming, sports or crafting)
- Ensuring camping equipment is used correctly
- Planning outdoor activities or sports for groups of campers
- Creating weekly or daily schedules taking into account children’s age groups and interests
- Escorting and overseeing children
- Educating campers through games and explorations
- Setting up and maintaining equipment (like camping sets)
- Resolving occasional fights between children and addressing behavioral issues
- Making sure all safety rules are followed
- Ensuring camping site is clean and that campers don’t litter recreational areas or nature
- Performing first aid or taking care of injuries as needed
- Communicating with parents/guardians as needed to update on camper progress
- Keeping accurate incident logs
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with children and young adults
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, crouching or carrying children)
- Standard First Aid with CPR Certification
- Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check, with Vulnerable sector check and all required training by the date provided by the Summer Camp Director.

Job description: LIFEGUARD
REPORTS TO: Camp Director
TERM: July 6 - August 29, 2026. This position is a full time, 8-week commitment. (plus training)
DUTIES: The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- The safety and well-being of all swimmers, campers and staff in the waterfront with a goal of 0 (zero) accidents
- The planning and implementation of water activities for all campers attending the camp program
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance and any incident reports
- Assisting with other camp duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- National Lifesaving Certification (NLS)
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- Valid Criminal Record Check or willing to obtain one (n/a to applicants under the age of 18)
- Successful applicant will be required to complete the Scouts Canada Screening and Training requirements
- Enthusiasm
- Strong Interpersonal and group management Skills
- Ability to work within a team environment
- Experience working with children would be an asset
- Ability to engage youth in planning and facilitating water games and activities
- A desire to have FUN
WAGE:
Starting at $19.00-$20.00 / Hour
