Part-Time Dog Walker – North Vancouver (Opportunity to Move to Full-Time)
We are seeking dog lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to join our team!
All applicants are asked to submit a resume along with a cover letter. The cover letter should outline any experience you believe would be an asset for this position and why you would be a good fit for our team.
Treks 4 Pets is hiring a part-time commercial dog walker. This position consists of 5–10 hour shifts (20–30 hours a week), Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with the opportunity to transition to full-time.
This role also offers the opportunity to earn additional income through contracting as a house sitter, dog boarder, or by completing cat visits.
Schedule
- Full days: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM (includes a paid 30-minute break)
- Half days: 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM
We are based in Lynn Valley and service clients from Deep Cove to West Vancouver.
A Structured & Safety-Focused Walking Environment
You will work either independently or as part of a two-person team. When working in pairs, you will complete pick-ups and drop-offs together, but each walker hikes independently with their own group of dogs.
Our hiking groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of four dogs per walker. This allows our walkers to provide a higher level of attention and supervision to each dog while still giving them the freedom and exercise they need.
We also use Tractive GPS trackers on every dog during our group hikes, providing an additional layer of security and allowing us to monitor each dog's location while they are out on the trails.
We provide all required equipment, including a company dog-walking vehicle. You will use the vehicle to pick up clients, travel to trailheads, and safely return dogs home at the end of their walks. You are not required to use your personal vehicle for client transportation.
Depending on the day, you may also complete a private neighbourhood walk between hikes.
Job Details
- Each group hike is approximately 70–90 minutes
- Minimum hiking distance of 5 km per group hike
- Maximum of 4 dogs per walker
- Private walks are 30 or 60 minutes (approximately 2–4 km)
- Total daily distance ranges from approximately 10–15 km
- A high level of physical fitness is required
- Work takes place primarily outdoors in all types of weather
Knowledge of North Vancouver and West Vancouver trails is an asset, as is the ability to use mapping apps such as AllTrails or Strava.
Dog handling experience is also an asset; however, the most important qualities are a genuine love for animals, enjoyment of the outdoors, strong critical-thinking skills, and the ability to make good decisions independently while on the trails.
A valid driver's license is required for this position.
