We are currently seeking a Gardener to oversee and perform garden maintenance, planting, and seasonal enhancement projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, leadership, and client interaction.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Leadership & Drive – Demonstrates ability to lead a small crew up to 2 people but will work alone most of the time. Will organize work efficiently, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, while maintaining a positive and safe team environment.
- Horticultural Knowledge – Strong understanding of Ontario plant care, pruning techniques, soil health, and seasonal maintenance best practices (winter training available).
- Technical Skills – Proficient with edging, mulching, planting, pruning, and weeding.
- Equipment Operation – Experience operating small machinery such as backing up a truck and trailer, loading soil and mulch with a tractor, and comfortable with operating power tools.
- Driver’s License – Valid G driver’s license (A/R license an asset), reliable vehicle to get to work and job sites, and clean driver’s abstract.
- Communication – Excellent interpersonal and client communication skills; professional, respectful, and team-oriented.
- Organization – Comfortable using digital tools such as SynkedUp and Google Calendar to manage scheduling and documentation.
- Safety Awareness – Committed to following company safety protocols, PPE requirements, and industry standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance Leadership
- Organize and manage the maintenance schedule using CRM software (SynkedUp) and Google Calendar.
- Communicate proactively with clients regarding visit schedules, services performed, and follow-up needs.
- Ensure all work meets Meyer’s Landscaping quality standards and safety guidelines.
Hands-On Gardening Perform all aspects of garden maintenance, including:
- Spring and fall garden preparation
- Regular weeding, pruning, and shaping of trees, shrubs, and perennials
- Deadheading and dividing plants as needed
- Edging, mulching, and planting annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees
- Soil conditioning and fertilizer application
- Power washing decks, patios, and walkways
Equipment & Site Management
- Safely operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and small machinery.
- Load and transport materials such as plants, mulch, soil, and stone.
- Ensure all company equipment is kept clean, organized, and in working order.
- Report and document any incidents, damage, or maintenance needs promptly.
TRAINING & SUPPORT PROVIDED
- Supervisor and leadership training through Landscape Ontario
- Overview of systems and scheduling with Communications Manager
- Weekly in-season consultation with Communications Manager (April-Nov)
- Daily operational support and communication with problem solving and on the job training when issues arise with Owner/ Supervisor
