Adult Day Program – Program Assistant
*This position is located throughout Lanark Leeds Grenville, with a focus on Almonte, Carleton place and Perth and Smiths Falls locations*
Reports to: Adult Day Program (ADP) Team Leader
Under the direction of the ADP Team Leader, the ADP Program Assistant is responsible to assist with the implementation, evaluation, and delivery of the Adult Day Program; based on the policies and procedures, and standards of the Alzheimer Society. The Program Assistant ensures the quality of client care through the implementation of appropriate recreational programming, and ongoing evaluation of client care needs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Degree/Diploma in Gerontology, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Recreational Therapy
- Minimum PSW (Personal Support Worker) certificate
Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience working with seniors with cognitive and physical disabilities; including providing personal care and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Experience working in an Adult Day Program or Recreation Department preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer disease and related dementia
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Senior Recreation and Activation programming
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with and without supervision
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Excellent organizational and decision making/problem solving skills
- Current First Aid/CPR required
- Current Food Handler's certificate
- Certification in GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approaches) and U-First an asset
- Current driver’s license and access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
- Clear vulnerable sector check
Service Responsibilities
- Ensure the program operates in accordance with regulatory requirements and aligns with the vision, mission, and core values of the organization
- Assist program leadership in the effective day-to-day programming, including planning, organizing, purchasing approved supplies, light cleaning, and other duties as assigned
- Assist program leadership in the creation, implementation, and updating of individual client care plans
- Assist in creating an environment of comfort and security for clients; ensuring programs sites are clean and clear of any obstacles
- Assist in planning and evaluating the program activities to ensure that they remain safe and appropriate to the participants served, and conduct continuous quality improvement
- Assist volunteers and students in the implementation of planned programming
- Monitor and report any serious changes in behaviour or health to the ADP Team Leader or designate
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (eating, dressing, toileting, medications, etc.) as appropriate
Travel Requirements
- Successful candidate must be prepared to travel throughout Lanark Leeds Grenville, shifts are offered in Perth, Carleton Place, Almonte and Smiths Falls.
