As a Senior Bookkeeper, you will report directly to General Manager and Controller and provide financial and clerical support to ensure the efficient operation of the firm. The role requires accurate and timely financial recording, organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, punctuality, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while supporting lawyers and administrative staff in the day-to-day operations of the firm.
Qualifications and Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in accounting. (asset)
· Minimum of three years of experience in bookkeeping specifically for law firms and knowledge of bookkeeping related to real estate transactions in a law firm. (required)
· Knowledge of legal billing process and Law Society Ontario (LSO) trust accounting rules. (required)
· Familiarity with Actionstep legal accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for financial reporting. (Preferred)
· Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
· Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
What You'll Do
· Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions in the legal firm's books.
· Reconcile bank/credit card statements and ensure balances are accurately reflected in the books.
· Sound understanding of legal billing and trust accounting regulations.
· Ensuring timely completion of monthly and yearly financial reporting.
· Preparing and submitting accurate financial reports as required by General Manager.
· Accurate financial recording, compliance with banking and other legal requirements for timely closing of real estate transactions and timely billing to clients.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with bank, auditors, and clients
· Assist in budgeting and forecasting for the legal firm.
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, legal regulations, and tax laws.
· Coordinate with external auditors for periodic audits of the legal firm's financial statements.
