The Role:
We are looking for a Junior Water/Wastewater Design Specialist to support our water/wastewater treatment team in the Ottawa office. As part of our team you will have the opportunity to work within many aspects of the municipal water/wastewater treatment market. You will support the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities in Ottawa and across Eastern Ontario. You will work in multidisciplinary teams, and will work under the guidance and mentorship of Process Engineers, Project Managers, Design Managers, and Contract Administrators. You will have an opportunity to expand your skillset through assisting intermediate and senior staff, and will work on projects as small as scoping studies to as large as multi-disciplinary treatment plant upgrades.
Key responsibilities for this position may include:
1. Engineering & Design
- Assist with the design and analysis of mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Support the design development of expansions/retrofits/upgrades to such infrastructure as:
o Water/Wastewater Pumping stations
o Water Treatment Plants
o Waste Water Treatment Plants
o Landfill Treatment Plants
o Biosolids handling systems
o Chemical feed systems
o Process piping systems
- Prepare engineering calculations, equipment sizing, hydraulic assessments, and technical reports.
- Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, system layouts, and mechanical design drawings.
- Assist in the preparation of contract specifications and tender documents.
2. Project Support
- Support multidisciplinary project teams during planning, detailed design, and construction phases.
- Participate in project meetings with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist in developing cost estimates, project schedules, and technical evaluations.
- Assist Project Managers in the preparation of invoices, developing quality management plans, and assisting with design coordination activities.
3. Field Services
- Conduct site visits and condition assessments at municipal facilities.
- Review Contractor submittals such as shop drawings and requests for information.
- Assist with equipment inspections, commissioning activities, and startup support.
- Collect field data and prepare site investigation reports.
- Support troubleshooting activities related to process and mechanical equipment.
4. Health, Safety & Quality
- Adhere to company and client health and safety requirements.
- Support quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Promote safe work practices in office and field environments.
In this role you will be working in a hybrid environment. You will be expected to come to the Ottawa office a minimum of two times per week. You may also be required to travel locally for client meetings.
