The Role:
Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Landscape Estimator will be responsible for estimating and preconstruction activities for landscape construction and site development projects. This role will also help with preparing accurate and competitive estimates through contract review, quantity takeoffs, supplier and subcontractor coordination, and support project transition to Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review tender drawings, specifications, contracts, addenda, and project requirements.
- Prepare complete cost estimates including labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and indirect costs.
- Independently develop project scope Where no formal Scope of Work (SOW) exists, through interpretation of drawings, specifications, details, and contract documents.
- Prepare assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, qualifications, and identify project risks.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing for earthworks, grading, hardscape, softscape, asphalt, fencing, miscellaneous metal works, and site restoration.
- Maintain strong knowledge of Ottawa area suppliers and subcontractors including pricing, capabilities, lead times, and procurement strategies.
- Obtain, review, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Perform earthworks and grading analysis using Kubla Cubed, InSite Elevation Pro, Topcon, Bluebeam, Excel, and estimating software.
- Prepare tender submissions, budgets, and value engineering options.
- Coordinate project handover to Operations including estimate assumptions, scope boundaries, subcontractor commitments, procurement plans, budgets, quantities, risks, and contract requirements.
- Support project startup and provide estimating assistance during project execution.
Qualifications :
- Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Construction, or related field.
- 5+ years of estimating experience in landscape construction, civil, or site development projects.
- Strong understanding of contract review, quantity takeoffs, construction methodology, and project coordination.
- Must have experience using B2W, HeavyBid.
- Will need a G license and access to a car.
