What You'll Do
The Manager, Fabrication & Installations is responsible for bringing our creative ideas to life. Working closely with our Design, Account and Production teams, this individual will lead the fabrication, assembly and installation of custom experiential builds including bars, branded environments, feature walls, retail displays, event structures, scenic elements and one-of-a-kind installations.
This is a hands-on role requiring an experienced builder with strong trade skills, fabrication knowledge and installation expertise. The successful candidate will interpret design renderings and technical drawings, determine the most effective construction methods, oversee shop operations, and lead installations while maintaining Playbook's standards for craftsmanship, safety and quality.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- This is a hands on lead fabricator position.
- Interpret 3D renderings, construction drawings, shop drawings and floor plans to develop fabrication approaches and construction methods.
- Lead the fabrication of custom builds including bars, feature walls, branded environments, displays, scenic pieces, event structures and custom installations.
- Operate and supervise the safe use of shop equipment, power tools and fabrication machinery (CNC, Epilog Laser, X Tool metal laser).
- Determine appropriate materials, hardware, finishes and construction techniques for each project.
- Build prototypes and solve fabrication challenges through practical, creative problem solving.
- Coordinate fabrication schedules with internal Account, Design and Production teams to meet project deadlines.
- Liaise with external suppliers, trades, contractors, venues and installation partners throughout fabrication and installation.
- Oversee onsite installations, ensuring builds are completed safely, efficiently and to specification.
- Troubleshoot unforeseen challenges during fabrication or onsite installation and develop practical solutions under tight timelines.
- Maintain an organized, clean and safe fabrication shop while promoting safe working practices.
- Inspect completed work to ensure all builds meet Playbook quality standards before leaving the shop.
- Assist in sourcing materials, hardware and specialty fabrication components while considering quality, cost and timelines.
- Identify opportunities to improve fabrication techniques, efficiencies and shop processes.
What We're Looking ForBasic Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on fabrication, carpentry, millwork, scenic construction, exhibit fabrication or custom build experience.
- Strong understanding of woodworking, construction methods, finishing techniques and general fabrication practices.
- Demonstrated experience leading fabrication projects from concept through installation.
- Ability to accurately interpret design renderings, technical drawings and construction documents.
- Experience working with a variety of materials including wood, laminate, plastics, metals and specialty finishes.
- High level of proficiency with woodworking equipment, power tools and common fabrication machinery.
- Experience leading or mentoring fabrication teams while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and exceptional problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the experiential marketing, tradeshow, retail display or scenic fabrication industries.
- Red Seal Carpenter, Cabinetmaker, Millwright or equivalent trade certification considered an asset.
- Experience with CNC equipment, routing, welding or metal fabrication is considered an asset.
- Ability to estimate fabrication time, materials and labour requirements.
- Forklift, boom lift, scissor lift or working-at-heights certifications considered an asset.
- Experience reading CAD drawings or working alongside industrial designers and environmental designers.
- Familiarity with SketchUp, Fusion 360, AutoCAD or Adobe Creative Suite is considered an asset.
- Calm, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to adapt quickly to changing project needs.
- Strong organizational skills with pride in delivering exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets Playbook driving standards.
- Comfortable travelling to installation sites and working evenings or weekends when required.
- Ability to regularly lift heavy materials and work in both shop and onsite environments.
- Post-secondary education, apprenticeship or trade school training is considered an asset.

Pay: $61,016.80-$95,000.00 per year
