Senior Host – Mid-Scale Dining Restaurant
We are seeking an experienced, polished, and hospitality-driven Senior Host to join our front-of-house team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced upscale dining environment and understands that the host stand is the centre of the guest experience and dining room flow.
The Senior Host will be responsible for welcoming guests, managing reservations and walk-ins, coordinating table assignments, maintaining proper server rotation, monitoring dining room pacing, recognizing VIP and repeat guests, and supporting the front-of-house management team during busy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a warm, professional, and memorable first and last impression for every guest.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, waitlists, cancellations, and guest requests.
- Coordinate table assignments and seating rotation to ensure smooth dining room flow.
- Monitor table status and anticipate upcoming reservation requirements.
- Communicate closely with servers, support staff, bartenders, and management.
- Recognize VIPs, repeat guests, birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.
- Handle minor guest concerns professionally and escalate issues to management when required.
- Answer telephone calls and provide accurate information regarding reservations, hours, menus, and restaurant policies.
- Assist with large parties and private event inquiries.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional host station.
- Help train and support junior host team members.
- Remain calm, organized, and solutions-focused during high-volume service periods.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of restaurant front-of-house experience preferred.
- Previous hosting experience in a fine dining, upscale, or high-volume restaurant strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and guest-service skills.
- Strong organization, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Professional appearance and polished presentation.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to confidently manage difficult guest situations.
- Comfortable working with reservation and POS systems.
- Leadership or supervisory experience is considered an asset.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak restaurant periods.
