Position Summary
Registered EEG Technologist, Cardio-Respiratory/E.E.G:
Your goal in this position is to perform routine as well as specialized EEG recordings of high technical quality using accepted standards, both in the lab and using the portable system throughout the hospital including paediatric and neonatal patients. You have the ability to work independently as well as a member of a dynamic inter-professional team. In addition, you have effective decision making skills and a self-directed approach to work. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will

Perform out-patient and in-patient routine and sleep-deprived EEGs to include neonatal and intensive care patients

Maintain accurate records of tests performed

Ensure equipment is functioning properly and maintain adequate supplies
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to optimize use of available resources

Support a customer-focused environment

Perform routine EEGs and specialized procedures in the EEG lab

Perform portable EEGs in Critical Care units and other in-patient units as required
-
Help to maintain accurate departmental records

Provide assistance to physicians, staff and service personnel related to the use and operation of EEG equipment
Qualifications
-
Registered EEG Technologist with Canadian Board of Registration of Electroencephalograph Technologists (CBRET) or the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) and (CAET) Canadian Association of Electroneurophysiology Technologists are required

Current CPR certification preferred

Completion of two years post-secondary education with some courses in Biology and Mathematics or other relevant post-secondary education is required

Minimum of six months experience in a lab with outpatient, inpatient and critical care patients in an adult and paediatric patient population is required

Previous work experience as an EEG Technologist in a hospital setting is required
-
Minimum of one (1) year previous work experience to include EEG set-up, recording and technical trouble-shooting of equipment, as well as preliminary interpretation of inpatient and outpatient recording quality is required

Previous experience in ICU or NICU settings and experience working with vulnerable patients is required

Basic ECG Interpretation preferred

Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification is required

Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with excellent patient care skills and service excellence attitude

Strong organizational skills combined with effective problem solving abilities

Bilingualism in French/English is an asset
