Job Summary
Unionville College is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and student-centered educational leader to serve as the Head of Senior Casa. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Head of Senior Casa provides academic and operational leadership for the Senior Casa division, ensuring excellence in Montessori education, staff performance, student development, and family engagement.
The successful candidate will mentor and support teachers, oversee curriculum implementation, foster a positive learning culture, and ensure the smooth operation of the Senior Casa program while working collaboratively with school leadership to advance the school's mission and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Educational Leadership
- Provide overall leadership for the Senior Casa program, ensuring high standards of Montessori education and student learning.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Senior Casa curriculum while maintaining fidelity to Montessori philosophy and best practices.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to teachers.
- Support teachers in instructional planning, classroom management, student assessment, and differentiated learning.
- Monitor student achievement and developmental progress, identifying appropriate interventions and support where needed.
- Collaborate with the Resource Department to develop strategies that support diverse learner needs.
Staff Leadership and Performance Management
- Lead, mentor, and support the Senior Casa teaching team, fostering a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing culture.
- Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and performance evaluation of teachers, assistants, supply staff, and support staff.
- Develop staff schedules, coordinate classroom coverage, and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Facilitate staff meetings, professional development initiatives, and ongoing instructional coaching.
- Promote professional growth through regular feedback, goal setting, and mentorship.
Student and Family Engagement
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of every child.
- Build strong partnerships with families through regular communication, parent education, and conferences.
- Lead parent meetings regarding student progress, transitions, and individualized learning plans.
- Support teachers in addressing student behavioural or developmental concerns and collaborate with families to develop appropriate action plans.
- Partner with the Head of Resource regarding student readiness and placement into Grade 1.
Program and Operational Leadership
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Senior Casa division to ensure efficient, consistent, and high-quality program delivery.
- Monitor student enrolment within the division and collaborate with Admissions regarding registration, transitions, and student retention.
- Oversee scheduling for rotary classes, parent-teacher interviews, professional development days, special events, and student support services.
- Lead the planning and execution of division-wide events, including Reading Week, Scholastic Book Fair, Casa Play Day, assemblies, graduation activities, and other community initiatives.
- Provide leadership for the planning and implementation of annual summer programming.
Curriculum Resources and Compliance
- Oversee the procurement and management of classroom materials, educational resources, and instructional supplies.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, Montessori standards, health and safety requirements, and Ministry regulations.
- Review and oversee report card quality, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and timely completion.
- Ensure effective utilization of Edsby and other school management systems to support communication, reporting, attendance, and record keeping.
- Monitor divisional budgets related to instructional materials and program resources.
School Leadership
- Serve as a member of the school's leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and continuous school improvement initiatives.
- Support admissions activities by meeting with prospective families, participating in school tours, and representing the Senior Casa program during Open Houses and community events.
- Foster collaboration across departments to ensure seamless student transitions and program continuity.
- Perform other leadership responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Education.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Recognized, accredited Montessori teaching diploma (e.g., AMI, MACTE, or TMI).
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) designation in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of Montessori teaching experience, including 2–3 years in a leadership, supervisory, or coordinator role.
- Demonstrated success leading teams, mentoring educators, and improving instructional practice.
- Strong knowledge of Montessori philosophy, child development, and early years curriculum.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong proficiency with Edsby, Microsoft Office 365, and school management systems.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification, and all required health clearances.
